Howdy all!

My name is John, currently driving an rx8 at the minute , fingers crossed not for much longer!! Im looking to get a subaru back in my life, I had a classic wrx impreza a few years back got rid a bit too soon I think, I have been on donedeal relentlessly the last week or so looking at bug and blob eyed imprezas, also legacys so just looking for a bit of advice for when I do sell the rx8 and go look at one, well a couple of questions. ..

What are b4 legacys like compared to a wrx??

How big a difference is there between the wrx and sti??
And
what in particular is there to look out for??

I know my way around a car so I know the usuals to look out for but is there anything in specific to look at??

Thanks in advance
John

Welcome along John... what do you intend to use the car for... daily driving or weekend toy?

It'll be a big factor in what you go for TBH.

Hows it going mate, it will be my daily driver, budget depends on what I get for mine but around the 3-4k mark, a fellaI know called alan owns that grey v5 its epic but out of my price range :-(

As a daily driver... I'd gor for a WRX... cheaper to run on all fronts and more reliable... especailly with the classics. With your budget that's kind of what you'll be aiming at. STI classics are a little more fragile in most areas compared to the newage cars. (Engines, Gearboxes etc). Classic STI's and WRX's also suffer from rust due to their age of them now so you might find it hard to get a clean ones.

Type R's can be hard to live with day to day... not the most relaxing drive as there a little hardcore and my own used to get anywhere from 10mpg to 18mpg on a an average weeks driving.

You won't find a clean one at that price range either.

I'd get a 02-03 WRX that has a comprehensive history. Avoid UK imports... they are rust buckets. Irish WRX's tend to bullet proof and the more sophisticated ECU's in them... over the classic WRX's ECU... can see good gains from very little other than free-breathing exhaust and air filter.
