alright lads i have a jdm 1.4 2000 honda civic. i have been eyeing up a type r build either b16b or b18c from icetronix. With the engine, gearbox and labour the cost comes to around 3k. having always been a fan of the ek9 type r but insurance and just the general price of them is the reason i havent bought one. just wondering what you lads think of this and is it worth doing.

In a word Nope ....
In my eyes it would always be a 1.4 ,no matter what was under the bonnet
the rear drums would have to be replaced , suspension , interior ,
it would be a fruitless labour , and would be cheaper to by an EK9 straight off

that price wouldnt include the suspension or any of the other parts that make a type r a type r , and reading between the lines you wouldnt declare the "mod" to the insurers , other wise you would just buy a proper type r , so whats the point taking your perfect little civic , firing a bigger engine into it , not been properly insured , and a car that will be harder to shift in the future 2 , i reckon you are throwing away 3k that you could put against buying and insuring a type r , plus every time you come to a check point etc on the roads you wont be afraid of the cop saying pop the bonnet and i have a look , seen this done and cars confiscated ,

Put the money into your Impreza, much better power gains to be had :subaru:

surely can , have a cousin in the force and he tells me anything new thats coming in , but this is by no means new , traffic corps are well up on whats what when it comes to what engine a car should have 2 , put it to you this way , i wouldnt like to be getting stopped by them if i were running something not strictly proper

Some yolk all the same, but wouldn't risk it over here i hate even stopping at checks although it's all legite, so can imagine the scrutiny you'd get with something like that machine.
