Normal Cars are bloody dangerous!!

I have noticed that everytime I drive a "normal" car, I feel so uneasy!
One of my little sisters drives a Yaris, she has often asked me to try figure out what the vibration is when she goes around roundabouts and stuff!
I pulled out of the wheels, all tyres have plenty of thread and are inflated properly!
Never found anything wrong,
I was driving it a couple of days ago, wet day, Sarah (sis) was passenger, I turned sharply into tight bend (missing to make it understeer a bit) and she said, there, that vibration!
So, I swapped seats and got her to drive normally, and she entered a roundabout at normal speed, and sure enough, it just understeered, just a tiny bit, but still!
Tyres are all budget brand (kingstar or something) size 155/70/13 and it wheel spins so easily,
I had a very similar experiance in my mates 1.6 ford focus

The scooby has AWD and big tyres, the Golf has big wide tyres and allsorts of ABS ESP TC, bla bla

Makes a big differnce, especially to normal people who wouldn't realise their cars limitations

I have 2 styles of driving,
i style for the scooby where i am confident to throw it into the corner and know its going to stick and not try to kill me
the other style is for the work car...... skitterish and slidy is the only way to describe the focus........

have to say tho, The wifes passat is great for holding the road

Kinda related topic,,,> when im driving a 'Normal Car' i often put my foot to the floor and find that im leaning forward to compensate for the G, {Nothing but PEE}
or the other thing is that every thing i drive i think the same thing.. ?? ?? there must be something wrong this is down on power????

just bought the Wife a zafira
good god they handle so bad
and as for power
its a joke
it is so bad
yes some ordinary cars are very dangerous
nothing as bad as a car that takes longer than watching godfather 3 to overtake 1 car in front of you :cuckoo:

Just drove back from wexford in the other halfs citreon picasso 1.8 and its a mad car have had it all over the country and it always seemed ok as herself and my daughter were with me and i never push it when there with me
but came back tonight on my own pushing it on the back roads at the speed limit of course and it scared the sh*t outa me felt like it wanted to rollover or slide out on every turn its so bad at 80klms only for the arm rest id have fell out the window the speed limits dont match for cars like this will be taken it a bit more easy in future
The legacys grand love 4wd so much will never go two wheel drive again

My missus used to drive our '04 1,6 (still 4wd) for a good while and one day She went to work with My Rover 75 (sorry I just love this model :icon_redface:)
That was a wet day, as She approached the roundabout with the speed She used to there was something different........:

jesus man hope she was ok id say that was a scary moment i let my miss drive my legacy only once for bout an hour and i noticed the next day she was throwing her little starlet at the time around the bends thank god it wasnt raining had to tell her to relax or she would kill herself she didnt understand that my car and her car where totaly different it shows how quick it can change your mindset and confidence
There is some nice versions of that car knocking around was in Blackpool last week and seen 3 cracking looking ones over there
part of the UK MG club if i had one id debadge it bang a nice set of wheels on it tint the windows and you have a replica jag for a qtr the price

Mine was a deadly slow 1,8 auto but the most comfortable car I ever drove. Unfortunatly writen off but thanks god She didn't get hurt at all.
It was amaizing to Me how different a "normal" car can be to compare to a subaru (4wd) and shows how unimportant the fuel consumption can be when it comes to the safety of handling. Her current focus 1,6 takes average 8,5L for 100 km. The 1,6 impreza took 8,5-9 L for 100 km. It's realy nothing! Ones We have the focus paid off to the bank she'll get an N/A impreza SW or forester

Sister has an '05 Yaris. I wouldnt take it any further than the local shops. Feels like driving a tin can and you may forget about it if its a windy day.

The missus has a diesel octavia, They should come with life jackets!
the work van - transporter on the other hand isn't a bad handling machine to be fair and doesn't mind being shown a twisty road..

This is why I am so keen for Anna to stay driving the forester!
It's a safety thing

Any of you complaining about fwd or rwd compared to awd-seriously people-learn to drive. As someone who drives for a living you all need to learn to compensate for what youre driving.

Have to say that yes going from an AWD car to FWD or RWD is different but everyone knows that different cars have different carrictoristics take the DCCD model imprezas. If you had your partner divering an impreza with it set on auto all the time she'd be flying once shes used to it but you leave it to the rear one day and not tell her and you could be asking for trouble. It's all down to can the person driving judge and control the car when it starts to go wrong. Correction is everything and all these cars you'vemension if driven at the speeds their supposed to are not dangerous. Yes they don't have the road holding on a car that cost three maybe four times that they are but they wouldn't be on the road if they wheren't safe.

@ Eric,
Regarding cost, A 1.6 AWD impreza would be a similar price to a Focus, and would deofe hold the road better,
I think on any/every car, simply speccing bigger wheels and tyres of a good brand name would make them so much safer

I swap around from a powerful AWD Foz, to a quick FWD golf with driving aids, a big RWD van LT35 with driving aids to a powerful raw RWD skyline
I wholeheartedly understand that you need to be very aware of which vehical I am driving as I approach a bend!

From a safety point of view, if any of our wifes/girlfriends/sisters are driving down a wet counrty road, at a normal speed, suddenly, a car comes around a bend towards her in the middle of the road, our wife/girlfriend/sister has to swerve left towards the ditch to avoid him, then swerve back right agian to continue along the road,
If she is in one of our cars, or a nice low well sorted sporty 2wd with ESP, then she has a much better chance of the car going were she points the steering wheel,

I'm talking about STi models dan not the 1.6 although i do know what you mean about the 1.6 model and the focus. I'm also talking about partners of lads that drive subaru and not your personel experiance with your vechials as I know only to well that you can drive all of them.

Drivers just have to gage their style of driving to the car that their driving at that time and they'll be safe in any of them thats my point.

its nothing got to do with what car anyone one drives, its got to do with the cheap sh*t tyres they are running.

all cars steer from the front wheels, if you have cheap sh*t tyres on a scooby with 4wd on the front it will still understeer.

best thing to do is not worry about the car, BUY GOOD TYRES!!!!!!!!!!
