Oil on the timing belt cover

maybe front crank oil seal? need to remove crank pulley to get at it i think, maybe more to it than that though

rob if it is the front crank seal gone you would be as well off to replace the timing belt unless you have recently replaced as you have to take off the crank pulley to get to it so obviously belt off

Ya can take off both cam covers without removing anything other than the alternator belt and maybe the rad fans then you shops be able to see where the oils coming from if it's only on one side it's more likely a cam seal
Always replace the belt and tensioners if there's oil on it or at least the belt if tensioners have already been done recently
Belt only is about 65 quid

The oil seal location at the front right cover is directly under the oil filler cap so maybe if it is localised to the right hand side then maybe it is the result of spillage during oil filling?

Thanks lads, funding is very very low at the moment so i think i will have it looked at and see what its going to cost :icon_sad:

Id say i will end up parking her up until i can get it sorted, just got the tyers off hammie and tought i was ok for a few more weeks :dontknow:

Did you check the oil levels to see how much you are losing? Might not be bad enough to stop driving it as long as you keep an eye on it :dontknow:

ya it was low last week so i topped it up,but i can some times smell the oil burning off so it must be get bad now id say

Anyone got a few links for timing belt kits

I's it not just a faulty rocker gasket??? Common on them... Will cause the burning smell... And can work its way round to cam cover.
