Oil temp gauge plumbing

See what I mean though, the oil has a long way to travel up a small hose to get to the sensor 1000020852.jpg

Sorry for all the messing ,
I think there could be a blockage somewhere not allowing oil up to that sensor ,
A way to check would be to unplug the crack sensor , remove the temp sensor and get someone to crank the engine (it won’t start) and see if oil comes out,
Put a few rags down

ones Iv used before had a way shorter pipe and plumbed in under the alternator and sat just in front of the inlet .
So would have being getting cold air aswell but there was no issue With it.
A sandwich plate is a better job with both sensors in it on the top of the oil filter that’s a defi 1 below and Iv never had any issue with apart from a sensor going bad but that’s normal

I might try that, we did take out the sensor itself after a spin and it was bone dry, but deffo worth checking if it's getting any oil to begin with 👌

I used a sandwich plate in the WRX that time.. But was kind of advised against it then as it makes the oil filter sit about an inch lower and if it caught anything and ripped off or something your fucked..
Defi sandwich plate would fit aswel. I'll check Barry's method above first and if it's not getting oil, will just go with sandwich plate I reckon 👍👍

I should have a sandwich plate that you can have eoin, it was fitted to a car we broke a few years back that had a set of defis fitted to it, should the plate say defi on it does anyone know?

Oh brilliant Johnny. That would be deadly. Would save me about 2 or 3 weeks of waiting for delivery anyway lol
I'm not sure should it say defi. Think a lot of them are the same to be honest. All 1/8 npt etc
I'll whatsapp you shortly 👍👍

Ok, got a response from Scoobyworld, I emailed about a week ago to check had they advice, the oil temp sensor is plumbed all wrong. They also said the oil wouldn't travel up the hose from the galley plug on cylinder 3 to the sensor... Hose may be about a foot long or so.

The correct way, is to put in a little nut adaptor into that galley plug, and the temp sensor straight into the block with no hose.
The hose is to be used for the pressure sensor under the alternator.

The instructions that came with the gauges only really outlined how to wire them, but not exactly where to plumb them as they can be going on any car.. So was a case of best guess.
This makes much more sense.
Scoobyworld said they had seen it quite often where people had done it the same was as I had, and they drew up their own instructions on how to plumb them.
Can be guaranteed the oil temp sensor will get splashes of oil when it's on the block anyway lol

Haha I know 😅🤣
I my defence, it didn't come with a Subaru specific manual 😂
I didn't buy them from Scoobyworld as they only have 52mm gauges, sorted anyway, will tackle it another day and report back 👌

Actually that makes sense ,I just remembered 😂
My temp sensor is in the block and the 2 pressures sensors are in the other yoke with the braided line .
Been that long since I fitted, sorry Eoin
