Old-age or stay bug?

I've only ever been a passenger in the old age scoobs but it never really felt massively different to a bug. (Other than one that was putting out about 360bhp and fu*k knows how much torque.)

For those who have driven both new-age and old-age, what difference, if any, did ye find between them?

Does that little extra weight in the bug really dampen things? Don't the bugs have a bit more Torque to compensate and a faster steering rack? Reliability and common faults if any would be appreciated too aswell as general info and experiences between the 2.

newage are more refined and have stonger engines then clasics but a bit heavier
classics are more raw lighter and harder edged cars depends on what your after

I don't want a track car but at the same time I want something that can get me excited on the bends but also take me home in moderate comfort on a motorway.

Agh there's a fair difference ..................

A classic shape is rough compared to a BUG eye ( i've owned both )
but would leave it dead from a standing start but then again, the BUG will be better on the corners
and dosn't budge , there fairly glued to the road.

Side by side in say 3rd gear, not a big difference but the classic will pull ahead.

As you go up through the years Blob eye / hawk eye, they get faster !!!

Certainly with the classic shape your really involved , you get to hear & feel everything , good or bad
with a bug you simply point & steer ...........well kind of

TBH if i was to choose i'd prob get the bug for comfort , straight through exhaust a re-map and you'll have loads of BHP
to play with.................... then again why not pick up a TypeR / TypeRA.............you can have even more fun ( i might be slightly biased )

Niall.

They are worlds a part... If you want the Rawness feel then it has to be STI classic, if you want a bit more comfort and luxury the bugeye... but i would probably skip the bugeye model if going newage considering what Blob eyes can be bought for now ... sorry bug eye owners

I wouldn't replace my classic Type-R for anything else... sorry newage owners...

have to say after owning both classic and now a new age wagon {cant comment the others in range} with similar power output and mods the classic was quicker but the new age is better everywhere else the refinement in a new age compared to the classic is miles apart and the handleing is completely different its just a better chassis all round

Well, the question doesn't specify the model but I guess You are looking for a WRX model. ( otherwise couldn't compare new age and classic models unless N/A) I never Had a new age turbo but have good friends are really expert and they say the classic is the best for fun while the new age is the best all around car.

Correctomundo!

Insurance would rape me with an STI so just a WRX is all I'll be looking at.

There was only a difference of €100 a year between my 03 WRX and a 04 WRX STI Spec C. If you can get insured on the STI go for if.

likewise as above i was only charged an extra 100 also. In for sti if finances allow it

19, 2 years NCB, full license for over a year. Last year they wanted €3,400 on a bug wrx Fully comp. If I add the GF it comes down by a grand. We'll see what they say when they send out the renewal in a couple weeks. I'm sure I'll find someone to quote me. :subaru:

I suppose its down to preference at the end of the day! I currently have a sti bug and I previously owned a one year old classic when I used to make a few pound .

The classic is gorgeous looking, has a real wow factor but the standard suspension and brakes in my opinion are the let down :icon_cry:. They really need a lot of room on the road when pushed through the bends. When the bugs first came out they got some serious guff over their looks :lolpoint:. I didn't like them to be honest but they really have grown on me, hence now I have one. I really like the blobeye and the hawk is growing on me.

On the road in standard form the bugs have the edge from third gear on and when it comes down to the twisty stuff they are so much safer . My one has an lsd front and back and it puts a serious smile on your face in the twisties. As regards refinement - comparing a classic ra to a bug sti there is not much in the difference.

Only my opinion lads :subaru:,

Steve.

i had a wagon classic and was nice but rattley and aged! now have a bug wrx love it every time i sit into it i know its a better car. from the dash to the the way the light stays on that bit longer, :) i didn't notice much speed wise but there a better built car and feel better. Maybe its cause there not as old!! i'm in 2 minds to sell or not..!! like today i'd like to keep it and went out and bought new pads and discs all round but blobs and hawks are sweet :subaru:

Doubt yours would still be there when I go to buy but I couldn't help rubbin' the thigh furiously when I was lookin' at it, GLWTS. :D

Thanks for all the info lads. Depending on Insurance, a bug STI looks the ticket. :)

I've had two bugs STi and two classics one turbo model the other sn STi typeRA. I have loved the bugs most of all these. I'd be new age all the way.

Depends wat and how you use your car. New age is best all rounder

classic bit more raw but if weekend car that might be a good thing.

Think of the Waltzer
If you luv the GForce then its gotta be a classic for the bends :subaru:
But if ya always get sick comin off the ride then a newage might be better for your tum tum :cuckoo:

Cheers, P
