Prospective new owner - Does anyone know this Subaru?

Hi guys,

I am going to look at this car (pics attached) on Sunday. It is a WRX 2.0 turbo.

I am wondering if anyone knows this car to see (Louth area), or its history? Additionally, I have never owned a Subaru so is there anything specific that these cars are prone to, what should I watch out for, etc.?

Thanks in advance.

I'd say by the fact that theres a front mount inter cooler on her that she has work done to the engine. Mapping is everything when you mod the engine of an impreza so make sure it was done and done right to suit the mods done. Service regular ect. Timing belt should have been done every 60,000 miles so make sure it was done to. If the car is on standard suspension drive it and see if she knocks on the rear shocks as these will need greesing or replacing. Most subaru garages replace them but replace both so there no imblance between them. Can be costly so take that of the purchase price when dealing. Check for knocking in the front when turning as this may indicate CV joint wear. Normally the right seems to go first. Also check all visable belts (power steering and aircon) at the front of the engine for wear. See when it was NCT'd. She would have been due at some time this year. If it hasn't been done you may need the original exchaust of immisions if there is a full system on it.

Other then that their solid.

i like the eyelids (or whatever they are called) on the headlights.

Their morretty quid lights and there normal painted the one colour but this lad has two toned them to great effect. Very nice.

There is 100,000 miles on the car and the owner (a mature owner) has told me that the engine has never been remapped or messed with it any way which makes me wonder why there is a FMIC on it?

ya, ive a front mount on mine and was told to remap cause the air fuel ratio would not be 100%

Do you know how much a reamp is for an Impreza (roughly) as I presume this will be the first port of call, should I decide to purchase the car?

In around a thousand euro I think. If its the standard ECU you have to buy the licance to map it or you can buy an after market one and get it mapped then. Both methods will run you close to €1000 for your first map but if you mod it yourself in the future all maps after that will cost around €250.

Someone who knows more about the FMIC on a standard engine will be able to tell you wheather it needs mapping for sure but I recon it would.

Alternative is you can get a greddy emanage and map it that way,

Got one from nungun.com (round 400 quid) and CDA a trader here mapped it for me (around 300-350), never had any problems

there is lads running cars with fmic without mapping, personally id get it mapped for peace of mind, an ecumap is 845 for full members and 895 for non full members @ sti tunind and a remap will cost u 350-400 hope this helps lad

Sound lads

What do you reckon the Impreza I am going to see is worth?

How long is a piece of string?

Basically you'll get wildly varying prices on how much this car is worth. If its in very good condition its probably worth 8k but could be bought for as little as 5.5 - 6k I reckon.

You're living in pre-recessionary times lads  ... First remap including licence from Jolly Green Monster would only be circa €700... Subsequent maps will cost around €230

William - are there any pics of the engine bay? Did he claim no knowledge of the front mount at all? Although unlikely, it has been known for some lads just to fit the core behind the bumper just for the looks...

At 100,000 miles, has the timing belt been done again? AFAIK its to be done every 40-50,000 and it would need tobe factored into the price whether you will have to do it...

Would anyone be able give me a rough guide on price for the required re-map after a turbo up grade. From a Vf30 standard to a TD05 18G.
Dont wanna stick my name on the list if it'll be more than I can afford.

Thanks in advance! thumb
If mapped with ecutek already £352.50GBP otherwise £646.62GBP.
Sorry to quote in pounds but no upto speed on exchange rate and my mobile card machine only works in pounds.

There are no engine bay pics. He claims to have fitted the FMIC himself.

Any other fueling mods? I'm running a fmic a year and a half now with no problems. I have an updated fuel pump though, fuel pressure reg and boost controller.

Thought he offered a 15% discount coming over here but maybe not anymore... Still nearly €100 less than what you quoted... The other price is standard for mappers who put a new map on an already licenced ecu from another mapper, you're euro price is also considerably more in the same situation... If Simon was to tweak map an ecu that he had already mapped previously then the price is £180 plus vat (again i thought there was a 15% discount applied here but maybe not any longer)

im only going by sti tuning where i got a tweek a month ago and was 350, where did u get 250 from also his site tells clearly the price of an ecumap
