Middle Lane Hogs
Well the car might have to be parked up for a while if i cant get insurance for good money (which i doubt in this rip off country) so i was just wondering what would you have to do if you were to park it up.... such as take the wheels off so tyres dont go perished.... clean the whole under side with power wash... service it before parking it or when i get it back going.... cover the whole car.... etc...

or should i just run it up and down the road once or twice a week.... risk meeting cops that way with nothing in the window....

anyone have to do this before????

Take the sparks out, drain the petrol and put some damp absorbers in the interior, seal all the vents so no insects or mice get in.

Best to just turn it over every so often if you can..those methods I mentioned are usually when someone is storing a car

Left my old Impreza parked up for 1 year. Covering the vents is a good idea as I was still having spiders crawl out of them months later after putting it back on the road. My tyres were ruined and it went through 2 batteries (Clifford on all the time).

It was driven maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks while I was gone though.

how did it drive after you got it back on the road??? did any mechanical bitz and bobz sieze up???

Nope, started up first time with new battery and drove just like it did 12 months previous. :subaru:

had mine parked up for a while it was outside got covered in moss and the condensation filled up the air vent in the dash with water but that dryed out after a day or two would be a good idea to cover with a quality breathable cover or better still keep it in a garage :subaru:

@ dagnut- Where do you get damp absorbers???

@ gretts- at the min i couldnt get a bicycle into the shed let alone my car  .... might see if i can park it in the cousins shed tho :ponder2:

stick it in someone elses name, tax and nct it and if you have fully comp with quinn on something cheaper you can drive any other car as long as its not in your name and road worthy, goin to do that with my gti for something different, you will only have 3rd party fire and theft though,

Parked mine up for two years.... started it up every 2-3 weeks and ran it around the the estate to keep everyting moving freely. If you can... store it up in a garage as it'll keep the damp out and save the paintwork. I stored mine under a carport & covered it up with a breathable cover. Cover being blown around a lot, eventually dulled the paint but I wasn't fussed as I knew I'd be getting a full respray eventuallly. Leave your handbrake off and leave it in gear as rear shoes will seize up on handbrake otherwise.
