Hi guys,

Just looking for a bit of info! The girlfriends sister bought a car a few months ago off a mechanic from town! She was told last night that the car was wrote off an he fixed it up an sold it onto her! Just wondering is this legal or should she have been informed about it when she was buying it?!

She should've been informed-but did she ask? In any case,put the car on a transporter and take it back saying that she knows it was previously damaged and shes afraid to drive it. Tell the trader she wants her money back and she wont go any further with it-if he wont play ball,mention taking it to the papers and the courts.
 
Yeah was thinking that myself alright. She asked alright an he gave her a big story bout it being his wife's car an that she never used it so there was no need for them to hang onto it!
 
There is different grades of write offs my old Altezza, If any of u remember came to a bad ending with a fence that was a financial write off but it stop got fixed and back on road. But if he said that it was never crashed and it was that's a different story
 
Denying that a car was a write off or knowledge of damage caused by collision or accident is an offence!
Selling a car not knowing before hand isn't an offence

So if he knew and lied then he's in a whole world of trouble!!!!
 
Does she have finance on the car? If she does its surely the finance company that should have done a background check before handing over the money! One way or another it will be a slow painfull process if it turns legal!!!
 
judging by your post i assume it was a private sale of this mechanic
fook all come back if so
also as said there are different types of write offs
the car may be just deemed as to expensive to fix by the insurance company
but somebody in the motor trade could probably repair it for less them selves
the car maybe o.k.
have it checked bye somebody if you are unsure

Mine was classed as beyond economical repair.Not too bad now :smile:

Dont think she has much comeback if she didnt ask.As said get it checked somewhere else.Much nct left on it?Might have done a good job repairing

Has she checked if this is true? As in, can you see evidence that it was crashed and repaired rather than just going off what somebody said?
