Rear diff noise

Lads have a bad bearing noise comming form the front section of rear diff, also there is a good few degs play in prop before wheels start to turn.
Wondering is this an easy fix like new bearing or is it a whole new diff before i start ripping?cheers

Mine the same, if the front bearing is bad will damage crownwheel and pinion and new parts very expensive. Problem is their all at least ten years old and hard to get good one that had an easy life. I think the best way out is drive it till it stops and stick in a six speed, box and diff.

I have the same problem with diff on my legacy b4,just went today to subaru salvage today and they took one off a 01 blitzen leggy with 82000klm.not fittin till thursday but should be a lot better than mine, its whineing and grinding away all year.E150 for diff cant go wrong

My brother got a diff from Froggy in Subaru salvage aswell, few weeks ago, lads are sound, delivered and all for good money.

Yeah, looking at service manual there could be a fair can of worms to go at myself as its my daily driver, better off sending pm to froggy, cheers lads

I have a spare rear diff from a my00 Impreza turbo - it did around 70k kms for 4 years before I got bored of trashing 5 speed gearboxes (4 - including one rebuilt with PAR gearset!) and fitted a JDM 6MT which needs a different ratio of CW&P (I used a Forester diff housing/CW&P which I fitted a plated diff into).

It lead a hard life, but is working fine and has relatively low kms - I've actually never heard of them failing before seeing this thread. I'd sell it for €75 if anyone needs one.

Edited to add: my diff for sale is off a Euro spec car, and is NOT suitable for fitting to a Japanese import. JDM cars used a different ratio to the cars they exported, meaning if the box is JDM, then so must the rear diff be (and visa-versa). Fitting a mismatch will see your centre diff fail, as well as increased fuel consumption, loss of power and unstable handling.
