Rear Diff

Hi Lads,

I have a drooning/humming noise, sounds like its coming from the rear of the car.

Wondering if its from the rear diff or something else.

Thought the diff would make more of a clunking noise if there was something wrong with it.

The noise gets louder the faster you go.

Thanks for any help

Eamonn

Check the diff oil and see is there traces of metal fileings in the oil,, if so the diff is on its way out!!!!!!

Thanks Lads,

Changed rear diff oil yesterday Ben, no metal and oil was in good condition.

Thought of the wheel bearing aswell JPtypeRA, will get my mechanic to have a look at it.

Thanks

Eamonn

wheel bearing or could one of the shafts hard to know without hearing or looking at it process of elimination for you i;m afraid

A lot of the time if a wheel bearing is the problem, the noise will get louder as you turn one way, and quieter when you turn the other!
Hope it's nothing to expensive!

the noise should get louder if you load up each side one at a time...
if goin around a roundabout and the noise quietens then the chances are the rh rear bearing is the problem...
can be difficult to determine which one is the problem!!!
