Rear exhaust mount

So when I collected the car the other day after having the new system fitted my mechanic told me I was missing one of the exhaust mounts on the rear - probably taken off when a previous owner fitted a tow bar. At the time he didn't think it'd matter much and was just making me aware of it.

After putting a couple of hundred miles up since it developed a tinny rattle and the tail pipe was sitting 10mm lower. Got under this afternoon and sure enough the exhaust had come out of one of the mounts at the back. It's under too much strain to work long-term so I need to get a bracket to replace the missing one and share the weight.

Anyone have one lying about? I'm not even sure where is supposed to mount up, but you can clearly see in the pic below that is supposed to be there somewhere.

Some butcher fitted the tow bar and took the whole mount off by the looks of it . So was never in anything

Wasn't me! :snooty:

It wasn't there when I went to fit the tow-bar I got from Dec, which is why I've no idea what it should look like or where it mounts up. :dontknow:

When we got the car we didn't even have a rear towing point, which was kinda resolved by fitting the tow-bar.

More importantly what does it sound like
Without wanting to sound like an old fart - its WAY too loud for a daily driver

I got herself to give it some beans for me today while I stood at the side of the road watching & listening. While it sounded epic when giving it full chat, its just too much when you're cruising along at 100km/h. I downloaded a Sound Meter app for the phone to get an idea - I know it won't be perfectly accurate using the phone mic but it give an indication.

84db cold idle
80db warm idle
80db in the car when sticking to 100km/h

So I put the bung back in when we got home - 70db warm idle (much more liveable).

If it was a weekend toy it'd probably be fine, but when you're doing the amount of mileage I'm covering then it'd get very boring very fast. I think that with it being a Wagon its just making matters worse as there's no isolation from it like in a saloon - the sound just travels straight into the cabin. Might put some sound deadening in the boot in time, but for the next few days I'll be seeing how it goes with the bung fitted.

Here's the mount Rob ,
It's bolted to the chassis leg

Did l not tell ya its gonna wreck your head :icon_lol: ?
Nobody likes a show-off :icon_nana:

Though to be fair, it didn't wreck my head. It probably would have in time given that I'm averaging 500 miles a week in it, and my wife definitely would have wrecked my head had I left it alone. So I sorted it before my hand was forced :icon_lol:

Cheers for the pics Baz. Can understand now why/how it might have been removed to fit a tow-bar. Can't remember if there's captive nuts fitted to the bumper bar for it or not. I presume its in the same location on a saloon too?

Same position yes , underneath they are identical. So one of a saloon will do , I'm collecting parts of that v3 Sti Wednesday I can pick it up aswell and post it down

There will be captive nuts inside the chassis leg unless they sheered off when fitting the tow bar , hence why the mount was not put back on, in that case you need to remove the bumper and you can gain access to get 2 nuts in....... Not your Bollox obviously

That'd be great Baz - much appreciated. Pm me your PayPal address when you know how much the postage will be and I'll sort out payment.
