joe do your self a favour and stay away from the avensis the newer ones are scrap they give a lot of trouble we see them in work from reps and the garda

Could be how they are driven or maybe a coincidence but i know a cop that bought a new Avensis diesel 2 years ago. He drove the ring out of it and broke the gearbox. Last year he bought a diesel Accord and did the same. I think he thought if it broke he could give it back or something. :jack:

:facepalm jesus lads i'm running out of manufactures at this stage  cheers dec you see them every day so i'll take your advice  what else is out there lads

gearboxs ,flywheels ,engines, turbos, they are muck but im sure someone will stand up for them, the avensis scores 99 in the top 100 most reliable cars in Britain
joe as far as I can see you can stick with what you have or if you have to have a diesel something in this order

1.ford mondeo/s-max/galaxy 2.0tdci ( I may be biased on this but they are good cars )
2.honda accord 2.2cdti
3.skoda superb tdi
4.vw Passat
all above would have to be under 50k miles any diesel heading towards 80-100k will be costly to run I really think if you don't need a diesel joe keep what you have

That new 6 is very very nice looking i like the older ones too defo find a good estate within your price range with nice spec

Or the Vxr8 serious muscle a truely bad ass motor
 if i had the dollars id have one

All new diesel cars are going to give a certain amount of trouble if they are not minded. I don't think many people would put a mondeo ahead of a Toyota for reliability. Not sure about a new mondeo but anything over 3 years in a mondeo wouldn't win any prizes

Really don't agree. We have mondeos and avensis at work, both 2.0ltr diesel. The avensis is constantly in the garage! The mondeo is by far a superior car, build quality etc is miles ahead of the avensis.

definitely agree with the stig here I see it every day in work we have mondeos in with us pushing 300-400k on them and besides the usual flywheels injectors and service items they don't give trouble of course it is all down to proper maintenance which lets be honest irish people have a lot to learn about ,id say 50% of irish don't know or care about car maintenance once it starts when to go to it in the morning that's all they want the only time it sees a garage is when it wont go for them .its along time since Toyota were the pinnacle of reliability that most people think they are.

ive my one nearly 2 years and all ive had to do is service it, best car ive owned....
45-50mph 130bhp comfy as your sitting room couch

Would anyone consider the korean cars that seem to be everywhere lately , kia and hyundai seem to be taken massive market share over the last few years , few years ago the better half had an hyundai accent and it ran and ran and ran never a minutes grief , she now has a hyundai coupe , and its running and running without a squeak , it gets her to college 2 or 3 nights a week to tallaght along with the drive to work 5 days a week and then used as the shopping cart at the weekends, seems to be economical , reliable and comfortable , what more could you want from a family car as such , i think they are massively underrated , well priced and not to be looked down on (as i wrongly would have done in the past)

Hyundai have always built great cars my father has had two santa fe jeeps and the only thing he did was injectors in one but it was from dirty diesel which was not Hyundai s fault I would recommend them but I do fear for the new breed of Hyundai as they could go like Renault with depreciation but that is the only bad point I can think of .I wouldn't be big into kia though !

Kia and Hyundai have been very reliable for the past few years. But would any of them suit what joe is after?
As for the poor avensis ours hasn't missed a beat, 35k on it now. Guards don't be gentle with cars so it's not a fair comparison.

the gardai don't break as many fords as they do opel or Toyota so there is something in it. but I do see your point its the extreme end of car use

if you look at the way hyundai have upped their game in the last few years since the start of the i40 range i think kia are just at that early stage with the latest c'eed so could bring along the whole range up the ranks also , dunno if they (hyundai) could go down the same route as renault though , renault had far more problems imo , dodgy electrics lack luster design etc , dunno if anyone has driven a Dacia since their launch , not a looker in the range but seem decent cheap cars , father bought a duster and loves it , all im thinking is if you look past the badge their is good cheap cars out there

Sure toyotas accelerator pedals arent even reliable , over rated cars and vans ,

Mazda 6 looks very nice and a good price  huyindi i40 a very nice but 21k for a 12 is steep and they dont seem to hold there value that well :dontknow:.
i need a car that will do 100k and not cost anything only servicing to keep on the road. it wont be a dacia anyway kia make good cars but nothing that looks good the suits the hatchback ceed looked good but thats it
