Recommend me a good car lift

I'd go with the Redmount scissors. I dropped the bottom half of a septic tank between the ramps so I have the best of both worlds (pit & ramp) but I was caught with a standard internal roof height. If you have the head height then the scissors on it's own will lift high enough.

A scissors lift will do every job you need, I've changed clutches on front, rear and 4wd on scissors.
Best style of lift you can buy, Imo
You don't need much space around them either, in my workplace the lifts are side by side with enough space inbetween to have both doors open 3/4 way without touching. You'll need room in front of lift for moving gearbox to

ok turns our Redmount are not willing to fill out the paper work to install the lifts for us so i have to find someone else that can supply, fit and maintain a car lift. Anyone know any other options?

probably a bit far away for you but i got a 4 ton capacity two post lift from bradshaws portlaoise, delivered, fitted, and certed for 1500 plus the tax. in six months now and not a problem. lifting high roof long wheel base transits and crafters and a subaru every now and then.. before we bought i looked at a few redmount lifts and was told that they are prone to cracks on the lifting arms. cant for the life of me think of the name of our lift but i cant fault it. before you purchase be sure you floor is up to spec it is usually a minnimum of six inches of concrete needed to bolt them down. :ponder:

cheers lads, ill need to find a crowd that will be able to provide insurance cert's, safety statements, perform a risk assessment of the job to be carried out and also be willing to deal with a maintenance contract and inspect/service it twice yearly. It's a bit more paperwork due to this being installed on a business premises rather than your yard at home. I'll ring around the mentioned places tomorrow. cheers

The price of paperwork, you'd probably want to double or triple the standard cost price just to make it worthwhile for those guys to go to that hassle.

If your man had of been smart he should of thought of that, money would not have been a problem there! Ill make sure to highlight it when talking to anyone i ring up going forward!

small update on this, seems like this is the type of lift they will buy:

http://rotary.blitzrotary.co.uk/product/252660

It will also have a center jack section to jack the car up buy the sills for work on the suspension, the amount of legal and health and safety stuff to go through and finding a company to supply and install has been a nightmare! Close to 10k for that lift fitted! Hopefully it gets some use!

Oh god I hate those ramps! Just my opinion.
Impossible to do any proper work on them.

You can't even take 4 wheels off!

:plusone: :lolpoint:
I used to use one of those type of ramps when I worked in a garage. It was a nightmare to use. The only handy thing to do on it was a oil and filter change anything more i.e. doing a clutch or dropping a engine was a pig to do, even taken the wheels off the car was a pain.
If I was you i would keep looking and try and get a two post ramp.
Something like this

Just my 2 cents.

yeah just went to have a look at it, way too big and your man is taking the piss on price! so its back to scissors or 2 post. Grahamo ill send u a pm about them

I was up talking to guys in Tool Auto equipment today and they will be coming out to see what they think suits the space we have best. Im still thinking scissors lift, for ease of use getting cars on and off, no trained mechanics here so need to keep it simple and still be able to do most jobs you want. I could see someone dropping their car on themselves if we got a 2 post!

Looks like a scissors lift will be the best option for the best we have, its a bit of a weord setup. AGM scissors lift is what we will probably go for. Need to come up with a tool list know aswell that will cover most jobs a DIY'er would use. My list so far:

Air compressor
Air gun attachment with popular attachments for bolt removal, plastic trimming etc
Torque wrench
Oil drain funnel catchment tank
Gearbox cradle
Hand tool set( socket sets etc)
Engine hoist(not sure if needed)
10 tonne hydraulic press
Steel/metal work bench
Work gloves
portable wireless lighting/ hand torches

Did you get lost last Friday? :)
Give me a buzz if you need a hand on the other tool stuff.

Tool auto do some lovely gear you mention above and the AGM scissor lift is top job.mine has worked no probs for over 2 years now.
Lifts lwb transporter vans with ease too.

If you get it, get it fitted at floor level not on top!
It's great to drop the lift into the floor and especially if you have a very low car, you will never have an issue lifting it.
Just drive on, put in 4 rubber blocks and lift

Sorry Graham i never got out of work until nearly 7, i didn't think you would still be there at that hour! I wonder how much extra installation would be to get in sunk into the floor. Can you lift jeeps with the scissors lifts? the light back pickup ones?

Yeah it will lift 3T. Mine lifts amaroks no problem.
Not sure on fitting and what's needed.

At home I reinforced the floor with steel while building the garage and the made a pit to fit the ramps into at floor level.
They will tell I'm sure.
