RECON ENGINE

no feedback for over 2 years matt!!!!
just be very careful mate!!!
doubt you get whats in the pic in all honesty

You could be taking a big risk with a used engine, it could fail and end up costing you more money, i know engine builds are expensive and i have been there, but for peace of mind i would get a new one, its up to you though :thumbsup:

Yeah was just thinking you'd need a remap anyway i would have thought if your putting in a whole different engine.
I really want to get a forged short motor put in my car but i may have to go the cheap option of a standard rebuild for now. But just seems like a waste of 2k when ill be wanting to upgrade down the line :thumbsup:

STi Tuning just announced an STi Short Block forged for 3k Matt. Well worth getting that even if it means using the credit card.

@Andy
Thats exactly what id like to go for but i lost my job as an electrician last week.
Starting a job on tuesday in the airport for sky handling but its sh1te money and wont get paid for a month either.
The price of the short motor is very tempting but when you add the cost of head gaskets, oil pump, head studs etc and labour, it becomes a lot of money.

@Dagnut :lol: :icon_hang:
@Mark i got a price of £1700 to rebuild my engine using standard parts. Plus £420 extra for forged pistons and £220 extra for forged rods
Then i suppose you need an uprated oil pump and other stuff im sure. So not sure exactly the best route to take when wanting the right job done but as cheap as possible :thumbsup:

Talk to Pete Matt.

Ali rebuilt the engine in his type r very cheaply. You could take that as a starting point then email Ali for uprated parts to go along with that.

@Brian I was talking to Pete alright and emailed Ali which is where i got those prices. :thumbsup:
Definitly the cheapest option. Im just wondering if its the best way to go as im guessing most parts of the engine are reused :dontknow:

I got all new oem parts with the rebuild, except for the crank, ali said the crank from the sti8 block is in good condition, I got uprated oil pump, modine oil cooler, and the timing belt done

You could do yourself a nice forged bottom end for not to much money these days, Have a look below. Fair enough there not the absoulute best forged rods and pistons on the market but should be plenty as long as your not going very high bhp. If you look around there are some good bargains these days, these are full retail prices to. Depends on rate etc but it gives you an idea of how cheap you can do it, in fact you will prob get the rods and pistons cheaper in some places. I had an offer on a while ago for Eagle and Manley rods at €340 per set. Ive allowed you 470 for them below but you should not have to pay that.

ACL Race Series Bearings - €130
STi Crankshaft - €375
Wiseco Forged Pistons - €470
Manley or Eagle Rods - €470
Labour to strip clean and assemble - €375

Even if you have to pay the above prices for pistons and rods from the UK or here and you add some delivery on top and get a hone for the pistons it can still work out at under 2k.

at the end of the day........
We all want to see your car back on the road...... However, I dont think an engine off ebay is the way to go mate......

Hope ya get sumthing sorted soon bro

Thanks for all the advice lads
I was looking at prices of bearings, rods and pistons etc. The hardest part is knowing exactly what i need to buy like which bearings and piston rings.
Ill do some more looking over the weekend anyway :thumbsup:
