Reintroduction to ISDC Both car and myself

Legacy RallyGuy

Sunday Drivers
I've been on here a bit before, but havent posted much in a while:
https://isdc.ie/forum/threads/31725/

I'm back, and now with a car soon!

Apparently the car I am picking up was on here before too!
I can't imagine a better canvas to start with!

1.6L EJ161 SOHC with 5spd *Okay, I know that's not the exciting part...*
There's a method behind my madness, first off, I wanted a clean scooby, I'll worry about driveline/engines later! AND I will save my 1.6 driveline for my 1975 Leone's rebirth later

Miles: 68,000

No Rust!!

(Fairly poor pictures, but I spent more time inspecting it today, will post non-advert pictures soon)

Prodrive wing, Nur sticker *Not sure if this car has seen the Nurburgring, but it will when I'm done with it!*

And it has an ISDC.ie sticker on it, the seller said that he wasn't a member, but the prior was a girl and she was the Scooby-Enthusiast! Perhaps some people recognize it?

Welcome back man

Thanks all! It's good to be back and now my visits here will go from slightly depressing to very encouraging! It's almost disheartening having no car, let alone a Subaru and visiting such a cool site!

Welcome back
What is a plan for engine?

LOTS! :) like popping it out!

Oh and I plan on keeping this car for a very long time!

Ah, well, I'm going to tidying everything up and use this driveline for a while, this is actually all part of my plan! I'll use this as my first car and insurance in Ireland, build a bit of credit and then a good driving record. After driving an economical car for a while, saving money and when I pay off this loan; I'll get another loan for just upgrades *this is very exciting to me*

Why so? Because in America, you're only allowed to get loans for cars 10 years old or newer and they almost NEVER allow for refinancing! So yes, this is a treat, it's like getting to make my own pizza. I did this with my 91 Legacy Sport Sedan, but after I paid off the first loan, they would not give me a loan to install a six speed and rear lsd. And I had very good credit in America, so it was like pulling teeth- getting $2k for a 1991 car in 2007!

I was going to go lower, since I'm in Dublin, but PFT the roads here are MASSIVELY rough in areas and the ramps in my neighborhood are lethal! A guy drives his Evo 6 VERY slowly down my road twice a day and swore that they're the worst ramps he's ever seen, 45 degree sided squares! He said he'll never go lowered again!

Stage 1
Rally Suspension
Rally Wheels
Rally Innovations sump guard and light bar
Fix any body imperfections, a clean set of fender flares :)
Aluminum Crash Beams (a good bit lighter)

Stage 2
I will do the following later to the Impreza, because my next big thing is a garage and buying back most of my tools I sold to friends in America or buying new:
Built EJ22T with V8 STi Heads and a good turbo (I loved my old setup with just a TD04!) *no need for a massive FMIC, I can just go with a clean Top Mount*
Unequal length headers
JDM 04 STi 6spd and Rear diff
Prodrive interior bits

And my personal specialty; hidden sub-frame and chassis stiffening to support power modifications. I dislike seeing a clean car with a big chunky roll bar, it's not THAT hard to marry carefully shaped tubing into the B and C pillars and rocker panels to maintain a full interior. Sure, there's less triangulation, but it does wonders for the chassis and safety.

Think of it as a street legal rally car. :)

And I will be saving the 1.6L non turbo driveline for later use in my 1975 Leone....

Leone with original engine: 1700lbs with 58HP
(29lbs per horsepower)

Leone With late model engine 1700lbs with 90HP (before any upgrades)
(18lbs per horsepower)

04' STi Weighs 3400 lbs> 11lbs per horsepower

So I can get attain near STi performance in the Leone by by bringing power near 155HP.

Supporting modifications of course, but without a heavy car, I could use standard Impreza with a few WRX components and they'd last a good while in the Leone because of the LACK of horsepower and the less weight.

But all in all, my plans might change, I may go for more power in either platform. :)

Thank you!

A bit more info, went to test drive it... ended up buying it anyway...
Bad... the guy listed it as 110,000 km, but its actually miles...

Good news...

Has an ISDC member sticker set... circa 2009

it has quite a few tasty Orciari bits on it!
- projectors
-grill
-Rear wrc wing
-lower mesh

Ive not identified the brand yet on...
Rear bumper lip
Side skirts
Front bumper

Welcome back, good luck with the new jammer :changinggear: :subaru:

Thank you. Good to be back!

It's not so bad really, the hardest part is really going from a Kartboy shifter in my STi to a standard one. I kept trying to find sixth! Now, I've been doing my required-by-law 4 of 12 driving lessons on my Irish permit, it's this tiny little Opel, which is so odd to drive, thank god sitting on the other side of a Subaru feels very similar. Though the first couple times in a RHD car, backing up and steering were odd, and there's this NEW blind spot to my right, where it used to be the center of the windshield. And I kept elbowing the window :p But other than a few growing pains and once pulling out into oncoming traffic, I've adapted. And really, everyone drives like they're insane here anyway, so I'm a very good driver even with my 17 years of LHD- switching to RHD.

Anywho, more CAR PRONZ:

Thank you!

I did some cleaning today before the rain, I de-tarred the rear passenger quarter panel and rear passenger door. I didn't know what to use, so I was just using some blue towels and a cheap oil-based cleaner I found at Deals to freshen black plastic. It's a petroleum-based cleaner, so it does okay.

I was surprised that so many cars here are enamel paint! I'm used to the basecoat + clearcoat style. Where a person could use a tiny bit of mineral spirits (called "thinners" here I believe) and ger rid of road tar very quickly! I'm glad Subaru uses the basecoat + clear, otherwise it wouldn't clean up as well. Now the enamel is very easy to fix, but much more upkeep!

Anywho, I'll keep you all posted on what I find. I'll probably migrate this over to a different thread after I get my full membership :) I like to keep track of my cars progress.

set of lowering springs would set it off now man

It's tempting, but I'm actually thinking of going the other way... Plus the roads are killer here on lowered cars, amazingly enough, the country roads are more conducive to lowered cars! :)

That Nodges old car?

Hmm, I dunno, did they have it in 2009/20010-ish? The ISDC.com stickers on the rear window were, "ISDC 1999 - 2009" Might check out their posts... :)

Oh and BTW, it's a pain in the butt trying to get the parts tracked down for a basic tune up! Finally went to a good parts place by Dorset Street "Part people" or something, they were very helpful!

I bought all the parts for the tune up tomorrow:
Plugs
Wires
Oil
Air Filter
