Removal of part of dash

Can someone guide me please on how to remove the part coloured black in the pictures? It's the part that slots into the white part.
This is the housing that holds the fan etc for the air vents.
Does it all clip off from the white bit overhead or are there screws somewhere, I can't really see any.

Thanks,
Adrian.
(apologies for the non technical descriptions :) )

was kinda thinking that, sean, when i cant see any screws. it's hard to see anything in there, i dont want to go pulling at it and then find there is a screw holding it on somewhere. I did tug at it a bit and it seemed to be coming apart but something seemed to be holding it in place and i dont know if that is just the thing itself clicked together or a screw doing it.

On the second picture it looks to me like the black thing is held by 2 white plastic tabs one at each corner that we can see, probablly more tabs around it aswell, Looks like you need to pull out on the white plastic tab to release black plastic, but be gentle, could break........
if its dropping the fan you are, does the fan unit not drop down on its own? on Classic it does

Those white tabs are part of a small door which comes off handy enough. I think this is where you can slot in a pollen filter but there is nothing there in mine. I can see direct into the fan.

I had a mechanic look at it this evening. He had one of those led lamps and was able to pick out 4 screws holding the whole thing up.

What I'm trying to do, Ken, is take out the black thing to get at the white thing on the right. I'm not sure about the fan dropping down on its own but i'll give it another look. I need to slot in a coil for air con in there. I said I'd give it a go. Padraic is giving me a hand. (I think he may soon be considering changing his email address with all the questions i'm firing his way though!) It's not too bad a job. If I get this plastic thing out of the way, i'll be able to get the coil in. After that it's not too bad at all. I bought all the bits from a local breaker but I've noticed now that i'm missing a tensioner pulley for the air con pump and i need to get a fan as well.

well adrian

how you geting on did you get the coil in... derek sti has same front as you do and only out the road if your wondering about what relay or wiring you could be missing... im sure he wouldnt mind you looking..

cheers
padraic

I did!! I thought it would kill me, there's very little room to play around with in there but eventually I got it in. I also connected up the return pipe to the pump and to the condenser even though there is no condenser in yet but i've covered off the end of that pipe.

Thanks a million for your help today, Padraic, you really set me up for this evening. I'd be absolutely lost without you.

All that's left to do now is to get the condenser fitted, get a tensioner for the air con pump and a fan and wire it all up.....somehow.......... A look at Derek's car might be in order alright, although i think you had it fairly sorted this evening.

btw, I got those relays and plug fittings from Ollie's this evening as well.

id say once the fuses and relays are fitted everything sould power up... was thinking on the wiring of a/c pump being a bit different it will take very little to sort out... any questions give me a bell
