Restoration recommendations

Hey everyone hope your all keeping well, it's been a long time since I posted here. Looking for recommendations for some mechanical and restoration work. Car is based in Cork but can have it transported to the right person. Thanks

Hamilton Car restorations (HCR) in Donegal seem to have a fantastic reputation, but the waiting list is a year or two

Last time I saw him talking about his wait list he was 2years plus and didn't want to take on more untill some of the backlog was cleared as he knew there would be 3/4months added onto that with possible delays due to extra works needed when stuff is stripped

I’d second what Baz said. Unless there is a good reason to restore the car is way cheaper to buy a good one.

What is it you have and how much work do you think I needs as a number of us have got major work done in the last few years

What needs doing? Arches and sills? Full respray? How far are you willing to go and spend? Liam brennan in Blackpool can do all the bodywork/metalwork and painting that you need done..he also has a subaru mechanic that he uses when needed who can sort your issues..

Not fully sure being honest as I haven't seen the car in a while. My pal is going to sent me pics at the weekend, body wise I think both rear arches and one front wing need sorting and respray but I do know from past experiences it does go on and on as the work goes on

It's a LHD car so that's really why I'm wanting to keep it as I live in Spain, I'm having a good think about it after reading the comments. Thanks

Wouldn't be afraid of a light restoration to get it on the road, , we tidy up, get a test on it , it suits most, if they weren't a few rough ones about they'd all be scrapped,

If its the car that i was looking at last summer in with Ian it looks pretty good to be honest, but as you said it was done before covid and probably needs a good looking over by someone and then take it from there..it might just need a major service again or it could need 5 to 10 grand worth of body and paintwork you never know..

We have a type r here thats been sat covered around the side of the house the past few years and it needs both sills and arches doin,
It'll probably snowball once it finally gets started 🫣🫣🫣

Thats the car, it is a fairly decent car alright. Ian knows the previous owner, I can't remember his name but he used for marshaling at rallies, other people that know the car that popped in also said it was a decent car. The current plan is to get it road worthy and maybe transport it to mainland Spain and get it home to Tenerife then and work on it in Tenerife. The problem is I sold my last GC8 and regretted it instantly as it was in great condition.
