well 1st of oct has come and gone and i never got tax, anyone know for def wtf is the story, will a change of ownership clear back tax??

ye it will be a clean slate for the new owner but you may be still liable for the back tax owed

Know someone who did it and no hassle taxing again
also the old tax renewal form you would have received
the pin number on it
will work for the next owner
so you don't have to que in the tax office
so change the ownership
date it today
then when log book comes back in your name
go online :geek:
and try the pin number from last reminder
and just pay 3 months from today
hopefully that will work

Must try that colm if i can find last renewal form normaly gets the bin. that'll have to change now. Does anyone mind several owners on a car now or would you even check

Its only something I would try now
I would be trying it as a regular thing
They will be spotting this id say as Dec said
but worth a go to clear it now

how are you going to have the last pin renewal if your a new owner :ponder2: :ponder2: so they will know

Read it there in a Q & A in the Irish Vintage Scene magazine. Once you become a new owner you are 100% not liable for the back tax.

That not what your quote says though ....

If you have a car for sale that is out of tax you are liable not the new owner , new owner just taxes from date of sale

Sorry misread Dec's post ..Yes your right you will be liable for any outstanding road tax on a vehicle.

I don't get ya
if I sell car that's 6 months out tax new owner taxes from date of sale ok fair enough

Your liable because the car was not declared off the road for those 6 months so they assume it was been driven . Same as if you let the tax expire on your car say and then went to tax it, you would have to pay arrears .

It's very up in the air in my view
I think it will be if your are stopped while driving a car without tax and your the owner then you are liable
I can't see them doing much more at the moment
There under resources as it is
I know it's not as such bye the guidelines etc.
But I don't think it will be any more than that at the start at least
Just my view and I know it's not the actuall info or law we are getting etc.

Garages who are authorised dealers have a garage code issued to them by the local authority. This is in for years enabling them to be the registered owner without having their name on the book.As far as I'm told this exempts them from the declaration. Otherwise they might have a lot of extra paper work.

They would have garage tax plates.
The green regs you do see in windows.
