Roll cage and NCT/registration certificate?

RudeBoy

Petrolheads
Hi lads,

I think of putting a half-cage into my type-r - removing the rear seats.

And now that's a question - how does it look from legal perspective? And what about NCT? Do I need any special test and special note to vehicle registration?
Is it possible at all to make it legal?

Or maybe I don't need to do anything and can simply drive like this with no issues? (however I doubt...)

Any information very welcome.

cheers

You will need rear seats for the NCT.

OK - so that's why I'm interested how to change it in documents to two seats only car.

cheers for feedback

if your takin out the seats you should commercialise it,cheap tax and all that

Wouldn't like to go this way - as I don't have my own business.

dont think they can fail on rear seats if there are none fitted they can only test whats fitted to the car so if removing seats i would advise seat belts also and any trace that there was seats fitted

I heard before that you have to get the paperwork for the car changed to state that it is a 2 seated car only. This is probably done throught the VRO, worth giving them a call to see what the story is.

If the car left the factory with a back seat it needs to be there for an NCT, unless otherwise stated in other official documentation.

Thanks Yogi - that's some idea with VRO indeed.

I think it must be somehow done for rally cars either? They are (at least most of them) also registered and probably need to pass some car tests?

cheers

There is a possible way to do it ... how many car have ya seen from the max power days , with the rear seats removed and the space filled with either stereo or roll cage ....
its possible , and id say as yogi said ... get onto the VRO and change the vehicle particulars

Just btw - i got very interesting feedback from NCT office asking them about what I need to satisfy them with the roll cage and rear seats removed:

"There can be no rear seats once the roll bar has been fitted. NCT will inspection the conversion elements to ensure that it is fitted correctly and that it is structurally sound."

What happend in the end!? Did you pass the NCT without the seats??

Hows your turbo running :shock2: and did marek get another map in Sept?

Hi,

didn't put the car yet through NCT.
to be honest I have some engine troubles and car has been sent to the garage for a fix and some bigger job also to the chassis etc.
Generally as I finally decided to buy a daily driver :), I can now dismantle my subaru a bit to remove some bad pieces and put it back together
in a proper way :) And also, by the way of those changes, I've had an idea to put a half cage.

We'll see probably in January or so :)

cheers

That's very much possible - however sorry about that :) - I'm sometimes thinking about things and just checking the road.
I'm very "beep-resistant" :)
