Thank god the roads dont get that bad down south.Came on a bridge before christmas in Glenville and there were four lorries either side couldnt get over it. So i joined the que behind, one of them was waiting for four hours for the council to come. After an hour they came with no salt or sand :ponder2:and had to look at the job first. Only for another lorry had stone we would still be there. All they were worried about was there tea brake :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

Scratch the paint off anything down to bare metal and see how long it takes to rust-look at brake discs even when you wash a car-avensis is only there 10 days

My road always gets sorted! The lad that drives the gritting truck is my neighbour and he's doing it every couple of hours!!

must be the only one he does mark!!!!
the town is in bits and most estates i've been in at lethal !!!!

to be hones i don't think it's pure salt they put on the roads here - there's something mixed with it. salt eats the snow so there shouldn't be any left on the road. austrian main roads are dry even if there's snow on the side of the road (cause of the salt). and as soon as it starts snowing again the trucks are out again.

loads of people are giving out how bad the salt is for the enviroment (the poor grass on the side of the road is dying) but i'd rather not have icy roads or crash my car!!!
the salt isn't very good for the body of the car either but that's why the car washes (the automatic ones where ya drive in and ya car moves on rails - do ya even have any of them here?) offer special underbody washes during winter time.

the other thing is that in austria (and loads of other countries) we have winter tyres - have to be put on by law and if ya crash and have summertyres on ya insurance wont pay out. ya own two sets of wheels with two sets of tyres (summer and winter) and that makes it a bit safer driving on snow. ya usually drive a set of winter tyres for bout 3 or 4 winters and then just get the last outa them during summer

Anyone looking for underbody wash try Statiol, Newlands Cross. €10 for full programme and you get a free full programme to use within 3 months or something like that.

All hear bad stories about UK imports and rust due to salty roads so would rather not take any chances meslef!

ah that's good to know now. was wondering if there is one of those somewhere  every town in austria has at least one of them!!!

yeah the salt does rust the body unfortunately. but that can be prevented with a wash - used to wash my car in austria during wintertime once a week.

this is the one man we needed this week......whats his name its...

i know talkin to my da he drives the trucks for south dublin cc the last 30 years and was only telling me

that they looked to start earlier but the council wont bring them in because they wont pay the overtime

he was saying that when he started there used to be 30 odd lads in the depot at the deadmans on the n4

and nowthere is hardly 8 lads with one truck and he has to cover 160km of road starting at 0500

were as 20 years ago he done lucan village and a bit of the n4 starting at the same time he said it gone to the dogs

sure he got called out tue night at nine and worked solid till eight the next morning cause contracters hadnt done the slips on the m50
i dont know how many time he said they asked to start at 3 or 4 cause traffic gets mad they cant even do the job
