Second CAR

Sunday Drivers
Just wondering, do all you that have an Impreza have it as your main car, or do you have another car for daily driving
I have a 02 bugeye WRX and was half thinking of getting an old avensis diesel just for driving to work, about 300 miles a week
Hard to know if I would end up saving much between running the two cars
Any comments

If you were taxing, insuring, ncting etc etc it probably wouldn't save you much at the end of the year at the mileage you're stating. It would certainly mean a more boring commute to work too.

I keep the scoob for evenings & weekends but only coz the missus works near me so we use her car to travel to and from work together every day.

Its a perplexing one no doubt. if something goes wallop with the avensis your goosed. 30mile trip to work so??? Not much difference between petrol and diesel at the moment.
Avensis 50mpg x 300m @ €1.19/L = €32/week = €1,664
Scoob 25mpg x 300m @ €1.19/L= €64/week = €3,328

Saving of €1,664 / year = €32/week
€600 for tax
€???? Insurance
€ Tyres, bla bla bla.

The best thing would be an 89 micra 1.0 with alley cats and racing pedals for €200 and register in someone elses name so your insurance will cover you. If it breaks down fix it yourself

If you have an insurance policy on your scoob that covers third party on vehicles not owned by you then i would say its worth it... But only if the second car is worthless and you are prepared to write it off if anything happens to it... Something like a 1 litre micra as said above you could pick up for peanuts..

Well
I live in Sligo ,work in Dublin ,so Drive up to Dublin Monday morning and back to sligo then on a friday evening,120miles each way from Dublin to Sligo
10-12 miles to work each day round trip in Dublin

@Sweetcakes: Ya but that car needs to be insure also... Hence cost of second policy...!!!

i use the scooby all week, could do anything from 50 to 350 miles a week... dont think i could get into another car in the morning and just leave it sitting there!

@ yogi that car doesnt have to be insured, (not with quinn anyway) as long as its not in your name and you have the owners permission! think Dan had a claim like this before!

Don't think this is right? You can't tax a car unless its insured so legally shouldn't be on the road if not taxed. I can't see there being such a large loophole?

you don't need anything to tax a car now, nct or insurance.
on my policy you i am insured to drive any car once its not in my name. no further stipulations

whats said above is correct, once the car is not in your name, your insured to drive it provided the car which you have your policy for is parked at your home address.

the only stipulation on mine is that the vehicle must be "similiar" to your own ie it has to be a car

quinn told me that on the phone, so no cover on commercials or jeeps! its on my cert and in the policy book with quinn...

I drove a GSXR1100 on my car policy for ages because the policy used to say "any vehicle" they copped on after a while and changed to "any car". ive been driving a 79 w123 merc limo on my policy. not really similar to the legacy but they both have 4 wheels and drink petrol

Does this mean
I can have my Subaru Insured as is now,
Buy an avensis, and drive it or the Subaru and both cars are covered once just one of them is on the road
so in fact no insurance policy needed for the Avensis
This would be more tempting, all you need then is to tax the car,

I use my B4 as my everyday. Quinn also said before i was insured to drive anything below my stated engine cc once it was of third party ownership.

Tax Disc on scooby is out of date since September!!
Must get it sorted some of these days, Have to do the NCT as well
Trying to sell it then in New year to get a 03/04 WRX
