Secondary Air system failures?

Adrian: All your concerns are under control. I have my own OBD II reader, so everytime that bloody CEL comes in, I do check it right away what it is. As long as its just the valves/pump I clear the faults and keep a close eye on it. As soon as the CEL goes on again, I check right away. So this should get me covered from getting more dmg that I might not notice.

In regards of NCT - I had NCT just last friday and passed with flying colors, so for next two years its grand. The CEL was not on at the time I was in NCT and appeared later that day after another 150km's were driven.

If changing ECU and removing the whole system gets me going cheaper than getting replacements for valves and pump, then I will gladly jump on it and see what options do I have here. If by any chance that would be more expensive solution, or not suitable, then I am afraid I have no other choice. Currently I am at the beginning of learning curve trying to get as much information as possible before doing the last decision.

Also your point of 'non-modified NA car' is pretty good and sure worth considering. There is however slight difference in target area for each cars, you drive Legacy, that is more 'comfy' and its potential buyers will be slightly different from potential buyers of Impreza. Still a good point that I will consider before making the last decision:)

Thanks again for your input here. Very appreciated

Ok, talked today to Viezu Technologies Limited and Unfortunately they are not doing hitachi ecu yet! Was told that they have plenty request re hitachi and they are working on it.
Talked to a guy today who is mapping cars and he said toe that he never did hitachi r5 but he can try. Said that we can Take eeprom of a board, make a copy of it first and then we can play with it. He have tools, so he might be option. He said he will do more research re that specific model, hd said to me that specific table of codes need to be removed out of something something?!
Anyway, called to a guys at Poland which are subaru enthusiast as well, but selling subaru parts at shop. 2x brand new valves made by subaru are 1710pln which is around 415 by current exchange rate.
Why I am saying 2x? Well was told by many people that if one valve is giving errors, other one will do as well. Change both with one labour.
I will research deleting error code table bit more for now, not doing anything yet.

Good research done there
I would guess nobody is doing the hitachi
its nowhere on the web that i can see where someone has done it sucessfully

Przemcio: good job on the found... I am however still afraid, that it just wont work... Fingers crossed and lets see...

So, if I understand it correctly, WRX and STI's have from factory delivered modable ECU, and all that is done to it, is that the Software gets reflashed to whatever I desire, for example ECUtek and then mapped for the particular car. There is no such thing as ECU manufactured by different company, that will replace the factory original piece?

So, I have done some thinking, and please, correct me if I am wrong, and I probably am wrong.

So, if I am driving over city, maximum of 4k RPM, and not pushing it very hard, the CEL stays off for most of the time. As soon as I start pushing it harder and go over 5k RPM, the CEL goes on and errors I am getting are as follows:

P2433 - Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit High Bank 1
P1410 - Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve Stuck Open

If I understand it correctly, it will most probably be Switching Valve that is corroded and stays open. When I push it hard, a lot of exhaust fumes will be pushed back into the system and cause High Air Pressure in Bank 1?

Is my theory correct? Which one is Bank 1? Is it Passenger Side? Drivers side? I would love to get it appart this weekend and try cleaning and lubing it so I get back at least partial functionality.

Thanks for any input.

so, above are pictures of my left side valve. As you can see its pretty rusty there. I checked the other one as well and it doesn't seem rusty whatsoever. So tomorrow I will take that piece of sh*t off, disassemble it and try to clean it and hoping for the best.

you'll need a special socket to take the valve apart, Zheiko. I forget the name of the bolt type, but I know when I got the valve off the car, I couldn't go any further because it is held together by two hexagonal type allen bolts.

So as you can see the pictures, I managed to get inside, but not the way I wanted to. The rusty piston is in one of the parts which is sealed with the plastic piece:( And I believe that its in there for good, probably glued it. So no way of getting in.

I properly cleaned all the parts and assembled it back together, and still getting the same faults

P2433 - Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit High Bank 1
and
P1410 - Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve Stuck Open

so I guess it didnt work at all...

Not great news.
Did you lubricated stuff after Cleaning? I know it is silly question but sometimes it is easy to forget some stuff.

Did you try applying 12v to it, just to see if the valve would move?
[/quote]

There is 5 pins, I didnt know which ones are for power and which ones are just 'sensor' data... so no, I havent attempted doing that without diagrams:(

Przemcio: Yep, I have. Funny thing is, now the CEL in on all the time, I cant clear it using OBD(it appears right away again)

Tommy: Not reseting ECU, but using OBD to clear faults. That should be sufficient, no?
