Middle Lane Hogs
ok so after finding out that certain cars have now become available for me to get insured on, i started looking around with no real intention at all

didnt really want to change the car as i love the scooby (love how it looks, but it has NO go)

if i was to take the plunge at put it for sale on bumdeal/carzone, what would you advise as an asking price,
bought it for 4k at xmas, spent about 2.5k on it including servicing. pics below of before and after.
only 5k miles added since i bought it bringing it to 82k miles. NCt till may, 6 months tax.

Only newage impreza 1.6 in the country in WR (o2c) blue
coilovers,
17'' rota alloys,
carbon fibre rally wing mirrors,
genuine STi highrise spoiler.
STi sideskirts
Japspeed backbox
ABS plastic front splitter
Sti foglight covers and splats
wrx bonnet
semi bucket reclining seats
momo steering wheel
Recent service, sparks, air filter, brake pads, oil filter, fuel filter, diff and box oil change, brake fluid, etc etc.

PRICE????

PICS below

NOW!!!! here is the car thats swaying the idea, saw it last thursday and have been going back and looking it ever since, price is now down to €5500, rare in 2002 for non turbos and for it to be so clean and standard looking.

whats making me think about this car is RWD = fun, obviously will be faster by being 2litre, jap import, and sr20 engines i know them inside out from the track car.

http://www.carzone.ie/search/Nissan/Silvia/spec-S/201225208797513/advert?channel=CARS

anyone know this car? seen it around? or have owned one in the past?
any help is greatly appreciated

i have a silvia s14a for the track, however its no comparison as its turbo and pure track built.

the decision is wrecking my head, please any help

as i thought, so thinking of pulling everything off it and putting the originals back on, still have the wing mirrors, suspension struts, replica spoiler, remove the front splitter, etc

Well no offence but I hate replicas. Why don't you sell your one and get wrx or Sti? A proper scooby.

I Like s15, but type s will be same as 1.6 Subaru. Just looks and no go. Might as well get something sensible and comfortable for daily driving.

On the other hamd Didn't you had that thread up about bad insurance quotes recently? I presume you still going to pay crazy money even for s15 n/a. Drive your scooby until you get more MBA and get proper scooby or s15 R.

wont get near a turbo for years to come i think, plus only 50 euro more on top of my existing insurance for the s15 spec s.

id put your car up for sale
and see what happens
could take a while to sell
either with stuff on
or removed

you may be lucky and someone like yourself who couldnt get insured on a turbo will see it and snap it up

as for changing
thats something i would think only you can answer

but also remember that in general cars are something you loose money on not make on
so excpect to make less than what you paid for it when you sell it
but also remember the next car you are buying has devalued also

it isnt what you get for your car
its how much does it cost to change from 1 to the other that really matters

I would sell and buy a pug 106 rallye/ gti or saxo vts.

Nice little cars with abit of go.

Mx5 would be a great drivers car too either

Believe it or not a i had a saxo vtr before, was my second car, loved at the time as i was only 17, swore i would never buy french again :dontknow:

mx5's are lovely alright but dont want to go back in years really, maybe to 02 (the silvia) or 01 for a nice car, next car has to be rwd or it wont last long to be honest :hammerhead:

sorry to go off topic but
i have a saxo vtr Lloyd and it hasnt given me a ounce of trouble
what turned you off them
i love mine its great for getting around the city
ive had several people call to the house and ask me to sell it
and i just cant let it go
closest car ive had to my old classic minis drive wise
always fun behind the wheel

no your grand
loads of little annoying problems, granted it could have been a once off car
it was plagued with idling issues, water moisture in the cabin was nightmare, eletrics in it were never right which i heard is common in french cars of that era, not saying its in them all as im sure there not as i know people with french cars and havnt a bad word to say about them but i have owned nothing but jap cars since and never had problems like that and as persistent :dontknow:

but a great, nippy little car for what they are, loved how you could turn in hard off the power and the back end would come around for you when you wanted

I couldnt see the attraction to the N/a S15, had a spin out of an N/a 14 and it was dismal.
If it was me i would hold off and wait it out untill you can afford a Spec R or a wrx or STI.
I was refused insurance on a 94 Silvia s14 turbo, but got cheap quote on a 94 UK 200sx turbo...:) .... Stupid insurance bs

200sx are way Easyer to insure. Though as mentioned above: s14/s15 n/a is as fun rwd as plain sponge.

What's wrong with mx5? Now that's rwd which is very fun, very cheap to run. 01 mx5 will be cheaper then that crapy s15 n/a.

Then again have you checked altezza?

Best advice still stands though: keep scoobie, get older and more Ncb and get a proper car.

dont waste your time with a n/a silvia of any form!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

either save for a turbo, at least or as said just get an sti/remapped wrx or the likes.
mx5 are fun but also slow... had a few ppl say they arent as good as ppl think

i own mx5... and it outlived a skyline in my driveway... :ponder2:

its a lot more fun to drive slow car fast, then fast car slow. Mx5 is slow at 0-60 speeds, but its still faster then 1.6 heavy FWD scooby, Its very fast on the back roads too. then again mx5 is about its handling and driving experince, its the most fun car i have ever driven.

Ah but no matter what way you butter it up, you always expect to see a woman get out of driver seat :multijump:

Plus the fact the chap probably has no hope of insuring a convertible
