Service costs

Hi lads splashed out on a 01 wrx, ????????, getting a full service done including belts and water pump along with filters and new plugs. Just wondering what usual prices would be, fella doing it has never done me wrong so far, getting it done so I have peace of mind going forward. Car has 107000, fairly good service history just no record of belts, I can see one pulley was changed as it has writing on it.Cheers in advance

I bet there will be someone who will get you better quotation, but according to mik's garage, just the timing belt kit with the pulleys starts at 250yoyos, with work, I'd say you are looking at 400-500yoyos for full timing belt change. All the other liquids change as oil, filters, brakefluids etc, you might be looking roughly at 700yoyos all together. You could have it done for half if you just order parts and do it yourself, but I understand not everyone is keen or skilled enough to do so.

Again, my quotations are coming only from assumptions, but Timing Belts in general are very expensive if you let someone else do it for you

Cheers, that's give or take what he quoted me, I ll have a good go at most things myself but don't want to mess this around as it a good standard engine, at least if anything goes wrong I have someone to go back to, if I mess up myself it could get very expensive. :yellowthumb:

Really depends exactly wats being done.

Example. No point doing belt without doing all pulleys and tensioner.

Water pump is all metal design and unless the car was ran on water would not need to be done unless was a bearing issue.

Would recommend an oil pump over a water pump with front seal.

Again re service items and oil type etc can hugely vary.

Where are you based.

:multijump:I did indeed, solid straight looking car, getting her serviced as there's a bit of a gap in the service history, need to take off the after market dump valve as it's not working properly but that very happy. Will try and get some photos at the weekend and stick them up

Congrads man

Regards servicing costs as has being said depends on type of parts Used Huge difference

In My garage I always recommend doing water pump at same time as it runs off the timing belt and has bearings the same as the belt idlers and tensioners and gets the same amount of wear as belt components

Not needed to. As said. Be better off doing an oil pump if wanted to spend money somewhere.

My garage has never changed the water pump on any of my sti's either they reckon there is no need , but on my passat and van water pump always changed with belt

Yep always on them. Plastic propellers etc.

This echo's what my mechanic told me when I was getting my belt done. In most cases the water pump doesn't need to be done. Its the same in most Subaru main dealers too - won't do the water pump unless necessary.

ITS got nothing to do with the plastic impellers as far as I'm concerned the front bearing in the water pump does as much work and has as much load on it from the timing belt as the tensionors do and for the price of a pump I wouldn't risk it but that's just my opinion after seeing them fail
