Back in 2001 I was the person at the end of the tail-back-queue near Zaventem airport in Belgium. Brand new rental Corsa (less than 200 kms on the clock from new)... Belgian couple fighting together in the car did exactly what the blue Focus did... smack into the back me @ about 80kph.
Walked away from it, but Corsa was toast as were about 6 other cars (I got launched and spun around into other cars in the next lane as did the people who rear-ended me).
Funny b*str*ds that caused the whole thing then told cops it was my fault (when they copped I was foreign)... thankfully loads of witnesses, including someone who saw them fighting in the car just before the accident happened.
- Few years before the Belgian caper very narrowly got away from a major pile up in Germany where a foreign Suzuki Alto turned across two lanes into the fast lane at about 70kph and an S-class hit them doing about 240kph. The Merc was two cars behind me... Myself and the German Police M3 behind me were able to cut a path through 3 lanes of traffic to the hardshoulder, narrowly missing everyone --- the Merc behind the M3 hit the Alto before he ever even saw him he said after. The Alto looked like it was hit with an Air-to-surface missile and was hardly recognisable as a car. In the end about 20 cars damaged and the two in the Alto didn't stand a chance. Had an angel on my shoulder that day.
No speed limit in Germany is great - except when foreigners who are not used to it do dumb stuff like above.
