Skyline

VRT on that is €37,800 and road tax will be €1300 at the moment!! (pre july) it will be around €45,000 and €2000 road tax after july!
SO get your orders in quick lads
Some car   and at €96,000 + €37,800 = €133,800! still cheaper than an R8 at €160,000
What would you have??

I suppose the the auld R34 Z-tune is a bit nicer!!
Dan

the Z-tune is the only car id consider having other than a scooby . . . .

*ducks for cover*

The new GT-R is selling from a jap dealer for around €60,000 so add shipping €1500 + 10% customs (€6000) + 21% VAT(€12,000) then 30%VRT(€37,800) so Approx on the road price is €117,300 is the cheapest possble example if you do it all yourself and take the risk that she'll be ok by the time she gets here!
That's before july which if you ordered it now, she might make it in time! only might!
So realisticly it will be all of the above but with more VRT to the tune of about an exrta €6,300 on top so €123,600 that's all!
By january '09 there will be a fair few on the auction sites in japland so It would probably be more sencable to wait till then to pick up a used dec '07 or early '08 one!
That's what I'm telling my Da so he doesn't go off the idea of buying one! Has was thinking of the R8 for when he sells his gaf to downsize but he doesn't like the idea that there will be better V10 petrol and V12 Diesel R8's soon after! so even after spending all that money he still wouldn't have the top of the range!

The new R8 V10 S Tronic with the 7 speed sequential box will be quicker and is not only better looking but will also hold its value better.

The Skyline is probably better value but its still a Nissan and at that price level badge snobbery means a lot and if you could afford one then you could also afford a Porsche or a 2nd hand Ferrari so your choices would be a lot harder than you think. Maybe Nissan should have called it an Infinity Skyline?

Anyway I still love it, like I have loved all the Skylines especially the R34 Type UK (which is actually the best Skyline of the old generation) so far and I still think it's by far and away the best sports car out there at the money.

firstly its not called a skyline..the v10 audi will be twice the price and and as far as holding its value you couldnt be more wrong the R34 gtr is one of the least depreciating mass produced cars ever..considering its 9 years old you will still not get into a R34 gtr for less than 28k sterling it only cost 50 new..good examples go for 33-35 for a UK model..ive seen 360 modenas for the money...The r35 has filled orders already for 2009 expected to make record premiums....badge snobbery is just that snobbery...Nisssan have been testing the V-spec version this week on the nuremburg..150kg stripped out and power up to 530bhp...last I seen of the v10 audi it was on fire at the side of the ring as the GTR was setting a faster time than a 911turbo which costs twice as much

Have to agree with Dagnut here, its not a skyline and I curse all the car sales w@nkers that call those shite Infinity GS's skylines, FOOK OFF, YOUR NOT FOOLING ANYONE

Anyway, its a beauty, delighted they have finally started to get rid of the ridiculous "gentlemans agreement" about 280PS max power, we all know thats only in place because if not you'd have micras eating beemers every day. You have to love the Japs for their inovative thinking and use of electronics!

Regarding the V10 twin turbo R8 ( or as it was originally called the Audi LeMans ), it will be unreal, should break into the high 500's for power and will definitly be faster and better than a Lambo Murchilago ( spelling eh!! ). The reason why they came out with the V8 as a start was so they would have a rival for the Lambo at half the cost ( as Audi own Lambo ) and we won;t be seeing that V10 twin turbo version unitl 2011 at least, but just wait and see it. The V12 diesel should be superb aswell, considering the diesel car they run in LeMans wins year after year ( also called the R8 ) 500hp and 700ft/lb  Couple that together with the reliability and hockability of a diesel and it would be the best car ever IMO

Back to the skylines, love it, they can have half the power of other cars but all the ingenuity fo Japland and still beat other cars twice the price and power around the ring, now they ahve the power aswell..... its a new era of Jap dominance

Long may it live

I think you must have misunderstood me. The point I was making was that by giving it an Infinity badge it would help achieve conquest sales. Where badge snobs might have not previously considered a Nissan sports car before, the halo effect of the Infinity badge (which is very highly regarded in the US and is about to launch in the UK and then rest of Europe) would attract these buyers as well.

As regards the Skyline name I know the one you are talking about. I put my cousin off buying one recently for that very reason ie that it is not a real Skyline. BTW the new car is not called the R 35 either.

As regards holding its value you just have to look around at the number of R32's and R33's around now. They are very plentiful and in comparisson with old Porsche 911's they hold their value far less well. The R34 was made up until 2002.There's a beautiful unmolested MY 2002 one for sale on E Bay with a bid of 14k with 12 hours to go. There are plenty of R34's for sale in the UK for far less than 28k sterling. That's not to say the new skyline wont hold up well though and selling out as they are doing will mean they will attract a premium until supply catches up.

Its going to be interesting to see how its rivals react but you can be sure Porsche, Audi, Lambo & Ferrari will be beating their engineers with a stick to come up with lightweight DSG equipped rivals which as you say will no doubt cost a lot more. The V spec Skyline is still a porker even at 150 kgs lighter. What would it be like if it was made of aluminium like the R8. I think it would be uncatchable for a few years. If you had won the lotto it would be a great time to be in the market for a supercar.

Roll on the new Toyota Supra and the one car I'm most eagerly waiting on is the new Celica with the rumoured STI engine and running gear. Could it be the next Impreza Classic?

yea i read an article about the 2010 celica, 2 versions , both mid engined , rwd using wrx engine and 4wd version using highly tuned sti engine making around 350bhp. shame toyota get to use it for a measly 8.4% of fuji heavy industries .
