Smell of petrol in the car

well just thought i would post this in case any one else ever has the same prob:

over the last few weeks I'm getting a strong smell of petrol in the car , not all the time and
It's only happened 3 times but strange that smell is there before I start her up.
and when I turn on the air con to get rid of it the smell gets stronger and it's fairly strong under the bonnet too!!!!?
so i done a bit of research on the matter and found that This seems to be quite common

turns out that subaru know about the problem:

done mine today so will report back soon be warned tho took me 5hrs start to finish

had to do this to my car not long after i bought no probs since great info

Had something similar in my car but turned out to be a pipe on the fuel pump housing was cracked and leaking petrol all the time but good find suggest maybe getting the moderators to move this to the technical faq section??
