when you read how many of them have blew up over in the uk you'd wonder if its such a bargain ,
subaru uk blame a bad map for the engine failures , apparently they run lean with any sort of hard driving and then pop goes the motor

Are they not the same engine as the 2.5 hawk

yes same engine , different map though ,

if the map doesnt cause the end of the lump , ringland issues are common and also headgaskets / heads lifting . dunno if irish cars are mapped the same but american cars have had same issues

As above tommy sure there's a thread dedicated to 08 hatch sti engine failures on scooby net

ya seen that thread.some went with very little mileage.there was an map update for them was meant to solve it but dont think it did

its still cheap tommy but get it done before it goes probley 2.5k or so . clowns should have kept it 2.0l and there would be loads more over here

2.5k if you got the work done before it let go , if machining needed doing i that price will go north rapidly , chances are who ever bought it knows nothing about the potential problems , the blob was probably the last of the great scoobies with the 2.0 , even buying a hawk is hit and miss with the 2.5 unless its has pistons , headstuds and gaskets done , lovely torquey road car but would have been be better with 2.0 imo

Wonder how much a 2.0. Twin scroll jdm hatch would cost landed and cleared :dontknow:
If you where looking at buying that hatch Joe then maybe that would be worth looking at
