Speed camera Vans in Dublin

Middle Lane Hogs
Was heading towards city center on Naas road (I think its still Naas road) today at 5:30pm and there was a white van parked on a bus lane. Did not take it serious and saw a flash. I was doing 60-65 km/h (speedometer reading) in 50km/h zone. So I guess it was that a speed camera van.

any one any idea can I get away for such a small excess of speed limit or its E80 and 2 penalty points?

think this applies to you ?
If you are driving on a foreign driving licence in Ireland and acquire penalty points here, you will receive the normal statutory fine but the penalty points will not be added to your foreign driving licence. If you subsequently exchange your foreign driving licence for an Irish driving licence, your Irish penalty points will then be activated on your new Irish driving licence.

hope this helps

I have full Irish licence and Russian licence. If I tell them about my Russian one, would they know that I have Irish licence?

I have seen the palin vans out and about but I thought they were all to be visalbe? Surely and unmarked van parked on the side of the road has to be somewhat illegal, if you know what I mean?
Cheers
John

PS they're just cnuts

a bit off topic I suppose but can anyone tell me what the range of these cameras is. can they nab you from say 500m away or do you have to be closer. anyone technical have the answer?

They flash when they take a picture & this happens when you're only about 50 metres away so I'd imagine thats your answer :dontknow:

Thats the picture alright but how far away can they detect your speed? If your speeding 500m away, but spot it 300m away, at what point is your speed monitored? :ponder:

I got my flash from about 10-15m away from the van. I suppose it is not working like when it flashes it measures your speed. but its not 100%

sorry lad, u were done, it reads the speed as ur coming up to van, then takes a pic of ur rear plate,

Yeah as above you where done,

One of the drivers in my place got 10 points in the space of a week on that road, trying to say we dont no who was driving the van as technically
there only in companies name so dont now how we will get on :hammerhead:

that must have been a garda van so, they were set up that way

well it was white ford transit with no big garda signs and yellow lines.

ah well I got my points so will wait till I have to pay and be more careful about anyone parked up on the road.
