Spraying alloys on my B4

Hi All,

Does anybody know a good brand of spraypaint for doing alloys?

+ whats yer opinion on a silver 99 leggy with black wheels and black claipers/silver calipers?

Cheers

Most important thing about spray painting your wheel is to make sure you use a 2 pack lacquer over whatever colour you spray them, as it helps to protect them from brake dust. I think ICI do a good one... but check in with J&S Motorfactors on York Road in Dun Laoghaire...01 2806514.

They'll mix litre cans of paint in aerosols for you or in a tin for using in spray gun if you give them a paint code.. or pick one from the numerous colour swatches they have. They'll supply you the clear lacquer too... but beware, clear lacquer is quite wattery to spray on and runs a lot so you need to keep the coats light!

Definately go for dark wheels... black or dark bronze!

Thanks for that lads

Have the itch now to change the car around a bit

Will throw up picks when i decide what to do and have it finished :subaru:

I have decided to go with black wheels with white/silver calipers.

Matt black or gloss, what yiz tink? :dontknow: :dontknow:

i have done a diy job on the wheels on my lancia black which were silver and they turned out very good.

i done matt black and then clear laquer to gloss them up, the key to it is prep work.

clean and degrease the hole wheel and tyre wall, then mask up the tyre with masking tape or duck tape, then mark up the wheel with a fine sanding pad to give the primer something to grip to, clean down the wheel again with degreaser and leave to dry, try and spray indoors in a clean dry place and use a face mask for the furmes. i used two coats of primer then two coats of black and two coats of laquer, dont spray to close to the wheels and try keep your hand moving as your spraying, other wise youll get drips or heavy spots, try put the wheels beside a heater to dry the paint after youve finished, dont use to much laquer or they will never dry

Nice job mate  That really looks great on the car.

Thanks very much for the advise, I will defo do all the stuff you told me..hopefully it will turn out something as good as yours

Easy enough as long as you take your time... prep well... and keep the spray even! Clear lacquer is a must to protect. If you want a flat finish it's worth putting lacquer on to prevent brakes dust eating away at colour and then flat it back with G3 compound or 2000 W&D paper.

I've done several sets of wheels... always best to remove tyres if you can... just makes it so much easier!

cheers lads,

ya robbie, i got the spray from halfords which was cheap enough too.

Doing the wheels on Saturday and hope to get a few pics of her and throw them up to show you my job and my car as I haven't got a chance to get pics yet

Cheers Lads :xmas_cheers:
