STI - importing from Japan

thats news to me man , i was under the impression the heads would lift due to the headstuds streching under increased boost levels , Ali was pretty confident that this is what my car was doing as the headgaskets on mine looked fine on removal , there is always something with these subarus , if i blow her up eventually i'll stick a 2.1 in her :multijump:

The same head studs can cope with 400+ on 2 ltrs... Some even run standard engines up to 450 bhp.. I wouldnt recommend it but they do.
When we talk about boost Tonmy we aren't talking big boost really, 1.1 1.3 bar ain't going to stretch studs, but the cylinders can move..

There was a few elements to the 2.5 weakness.. Pistons, cylinder wall thickness, and the poorly supported cylinders... Even where they machined for access to case bolts was prone to cracking.

The standar pistons were so bad that some mappers said 360bhp was there max!!

I can't see any standard heads studs ken holding 400 bhp

And i cant see any standard pistons running over 360bhp

Would you run a standard Subaru block over 350 bhp??

A 2ltr????
If so, of course I would, I would run one at 400bhp... I wouldn't push any further... But there is 100s of newage sti 2ltrs on the uk running 400+ on standard engines

Andy Forrest also had or still has a classic running 400+ still on standard internals.

I don't honestly know Tommy what power that was run at..just a pic I pulled off the net. But there has been piston trouble and head gasket trouble on standard cars, also oil usage issues due to oval bores

Could be wrong but your man Jgm I think ran 450 on standard engine
[/quote]

I'd well believe it!

all i can find on the hawks is ringland issues and the head gaskets , but hatchs have alot more issues including what you have listed Ken , so im still happy to drive my own on anyway , shes running like clock work , and as far as im concerned its a solid motor , will get a few more years out of her

@ ken you're right simon did have his blob sti at 450 bhp as i had asked him the first time he was here mapping,it was a 03 blob and was his daily driver at the time

My brain is well fried, I thought it was him but couldn't remember for sure... If I was shopping in the morning...
Wide track blob or a 2 ltr hawk.
Fuel pump, injectors, exhaust, turbo change and map... The tmic is even ok for it but a Fmic would be safer got heat soak scenarios

Would the standard head gaskets hold that power ken, would it need head work?

Standard Sti steel gaskets are very good.. Some say better than cometic....
No nothing needs to be changed engine wise... Newage 2ltr engines are crackers...
There will always be extreme figures out there... 45o IMO would be to the fat side... 400 maybe 420 max would be a nice not too extreme figure .

Is in it made how these engines get a bad name then?

Every other forum in the country would call them chocolate engines.

Jp couldn't get 400 from his motor no matter what he did, he should have bought a new age!!

Sorry it was a 95 WRX RA running standard internals that Andy Forrest had.
