Question for Mum4k. What is your car history like to see whether you are a rever or a torquer?

Hondas= Rever
Diesel or Turbo petrols generally = Torquer :threadhijacked:

Slightly disagree. In my car now and when I took the 04 twin scroll for a spin I didn't rev them out and that's coming from the DC5.

I think I made the shift light flash once on the 04 and I haven't let the needle go past half way around in mine yet but that's due to the cat downpipe still in.

I presume so colm sure my car would not have wiring for it if it is wired so it must be internal in the clock

I'in the proses of getting them clocks into my car as I have the green clocks and with the new defi's will look sh*t I have been doing a lot of reading up on them they will do the sweep on start up and the shift light should work don't get spec c clocks if toy want the sweep just blob jdm

Be nice if so
I plan to fit the new age clocks in mine
Won't be doing the dash just the clocks
Are you keeping your original ones Keith ?

Yea if I ever sell the defi's will be coming with me mad money so ill be taking them out and ill fit the old clocks
Ill have to get one of these dash repair lads to put my 30k on the new clocks think they have 75k on them.

225 pounds
Dave has a set off a 06 I would have taken them off him but you have to do some mods to make them work and you won't have the diff temp light and a few other things but the blob jdm is just plug in and away you go

As mentioned - I did not have a performance car before. Won't count the tiny cars, so what matters is:
- Toyota FJCruiser 4.0L petrol non-turbo - this was back when I was in Kuwait used this mostly to cross the desert so does not really count as a on-road car
- had Zafira 2.0 tdi 120bhp a while back home
- had Corsa also cdti for a while
- have Zafira 1.9 cdti 150bhp now

So I guess that I would count as a Torquer, mostly used to cdtis. Never rev the Zafira above the line where the power tails off... but then again Zafira is not really comparable to what I am trying to get here.

Not only can you set when the rev limit warning comes on, but you can also kill the annoying sound so it just flashes the LED.

@ mum4k : can meet up and have a spin in mine too.

@ all... a lot of people are concerned about Ej257 reliabillity... did a lot of research before I bought mine and also had a good chat with two mappers about them. There are big differences in reliabillity between different years. The 2005-2006 ones seem to have more headgasket issues, the 2008-2009 hatch ones seem to have more ring land issues. The strongest one seems to be the 2007 one I have. Mine is running 326bhp/538Nm @ 1.4bar boost with RON95 petrol... No issues, doesn't use any oil (about a pint on 7-8k miles). Bob who mapped my car feels this level of tune is very reliable and this is based on his experience with 100s of cars. If I want more he recommended ACL bearings, 4032 forged pistons, ARP headstuds and a good steel gasket like Cosworth and a clutch upgrade like Excedy pink and if going north of 350 a different turbo -- that should be good and reliable well over 400. If you want reliabillity above this number you are into big money for CDB conversion, 14mm studs, dowling, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, air/oil separator, 3bar maf or mafless and lots more...

@ mum4k : So... lots of talk about what is better etc - but really all down to how you are going to use it. As you want to run this as your daily driver you probably are looking at either stock power or max up to about 350bhp. After that you are going to seriously increase your running costs and I understand you do about 400km per week so you need to keep this in mind too. Also, given your motoring history you probably will be well happy with that level of power anyway and the associated cost and type of use you have in mind don't make sense to go beyond those type of performance numbers. I've had many different cars and some at least as fast or faster than my STI and still well happy with my car and never fails to make me smile  .

A decent UK model WRX will be a huge leap forward from those cars. You will have a wider selection of well maintained cars, less chance of it blowing up, cheaper to insure and wider service intervals.
Not saying you shouldn't get an STi and I'm sure you have your heart set on one, but if you're new to performance cars I don't think you will notice a huge difference or more importantly you won't be able to extract a huge difference...you can safely map a WRX to 280 so in outright speed you would barley even notice...getting an Sti as your first performance car is a big leap.

Yeah I know that, but this is one of the things where the heart takes over and logic no longer applies... and I had my heart set on the STi for quite some time... So I could get a WRX, and it would be enough, but I don't want to

@mum4k : was just reading some of the thread again...
It would allow me to not lose the deposit since it is also from hurst and I like the look of it and the fact that it is a hawk.

... Surely the deposit is refundable... you haven't seen the goods, is an "internet sale" and hence always have 7 days cooling off period under UK legislation, so you should get your deposit back I'd say.

Would try get it back and at least you are free to shop around and not in a rush to get something unless you were happy with it.
