Subaru BRZ prices confirmed u.k.

i still feel there going in the right direction but this is not the answer.

it has to be lightweight

i think you hit the nail on the head with one word there Jonny , AVERAGE , and your spot on the money , average looks , average performance just plain average , i do like the idea of a light rear wheel drive , boxer driven coupe but give it some poke , the performance of the brz isnt much better than my old r sport impreza , nippy but hardly pace setting

Ive seen so many post about that refer to it as being Light... it puzzles me really, as i said its only 20kg lighter than a GC8 and its not burdond with the weight of 4wd :ponder2: :ponder2: To me that car needed and should have been down at least a 100kg or even down to the 1100kg mark, its basically mx5 size and is not converible so should be lighter.
Cant wait to see the on the road price here id say its going to be eye watering

To me Subaru had it on there plate and still fukd it up,
Twinscroll Turbo 2ltr engine, and offer a 1.6 or 1.8 twinscroll option aswell, Offering say a 200bhp and 280bhp option, Torque would be up with the Turbo so the 200bhp option would still be better than the N/a OPTION.
Do some kind of weight saving, but with the extra Torque of a turbo engine, the weight wont be as much a problem anyway, but still the car Could easily loose 50 to 100kg for its size

i agree with you ken about the weight issue

the post you quoted me on, was when subaru claimed that the car would be 1100kg or less, imo the brz has to be 1000kg to be a great car and it needs to be a great car as i think subaru have lost alot of fans over the last few years with not being in the wrc and not keeping up with the motoring times, they need a new "impreza turbo".

power isn't everything, "lotus elise"

say the japs will get the 2.0 twin scroll option , europe and the states may get another 2.5 rehash .

FFS why o why would they put a 2.5 in it :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall:

I know what your saying about the ELISE, but thats at the other end of the scale, and can be light as it a basically Track focused car, if Subaru wanted to dip there toes into the RWD "fun" Car that retains Luxury for the other side of the market, then they need a Turbo to pull the weight..

Ever since Subaru dropped the new BRZ onto the market, we knew that an even hotter STI version was sure to follow. Now, British magazine AutoExpress is offering a few details on this new model, set to arrive sometime next year.

The future BRZ STI will feature a more powerful version of the current 2.0-liter flat-four cylinder ’boxer’ engine. The output will be raised up to somewhere in the 250 HP area (an addition of about 50 HP) thanks to the modifications made to the engine’s variable valve control system. That will also allow for an even higher rev limit of around 7,500rpm with the help of a new freer-flowing exhaust.

Next to the extra power, the new STI will also be even lighter than the standard BRZ. It will also be distinguished by a dramatic bodykit, a stiffened and lowered suspension, lighter but larger 18-inch alloy wheels, and upgraded brakes.

One downside to the BRZ STI is that there will be no turbocharged version offered. Subaru says there is no space for it in the engine bay and they are reserving these version for models like the WRX STI.

it looked like a great idea, but as far as turbo charging that car goes, toyota were never gona let subaru do that.
i dont think subaru are even aiming this car at impreza drivers, theres feck all jap RWD cars built in the last while, and to me anyways, its toyota going after the Ae86 market again, after all drifting is on a massive up and theres nothing to capitalise on it...IMO. Subaru are along for the ride to pick up units sold of the back of toyota.

+1

No point comparing it to a GCB..the hatch weights 1500kg.. the saloon closer to 1600...all the safety standards etc now it's a light car in comparison..all the weights quotes for the GC8 are dry weights so you could add another 60kgs to that...there is a stripped out version coming next year with no options , steel wheels expected to be 1100kg.
It's nearly impossible to get a car under 1000kg ans meet eu crash regs now...you are right but Johnny it is over 100kg heavier than the initial figures provided and over 4k dearer...I'm still looking forward to driving it, I can't really see many other new cars that hold my interest...

Got my copy of EVO yesterday and have to say it got fairly slated..exactly what KENC had originally said..not enough power...the weight is 1208kg to so it's not that much over what they claimed but they said there was no real torque to move the tail about...everything else was pretty much spot on but they seemed very disappointed...could be that auto box they had in the test car? the compared it to the CILO RS which has basically the exact same power to weight and torque and felt the clio was the quicker car...could be it's not even making the claimed 197bhp?

Based on the expected c02 rating of 160 then vrt will be 24% and car tax will only be €430 per year. I can't see this hitting 50k to be honest, would take a guess at 40k for base range
Jesus Brian thats being bit optimistic, sure the Currency changeover alone has it up at 35-36k euro.... Do you honestly think the Revenue is going to only look 4 to 5k vrt????? They get that on a Punto ffs :)
£24,995 at current exchange rates is €30,600 approx Ken, not 35-36k. Add 24% VRT to that and you get €38k. I'm not sure what the deal with deducting UK VAT and replacing with Irish VAT is but I'd say Brian is in the right neighbourhood anyway.

Vrt willbe :m :afro:ultijump:emissions based so I wonde :xmas_cheers:r how much that will make it
A few years back when things where abit dearer I always found the euro price of a car here was usually 45% more than a sterlin equivalent

Yeah but VRT is calculated on CO2(afaik?) this car has particulary low C02..for a N/A car anyway

Well, I'd rather wait for STi version with the opinion about BRZ.
The usual hatch WRX is not as attractive as the same hatch STi. One could say the same about GC8 WRX with 218 bhp when compared to jdm sti 280bhp.

BRZ is an idea of a fun car. Narrow tyres, rwd, lowest possible centre of gravity.

I wouldn't be surprised if the STi version was faster on the track than impreza sti ;)

It will defo reach high price tag in Ireland though. The basic model I expect to start from €43k

The narrow tyres to me looked like a scramble by Subaru to make the car seem lively.

Nodge the top end car is 28 or 29k sterling, that's where I got my conversion from.

I think people are living in dream world if they think that the revenue will give cheap vrt on a sports car like this, any isn't the government on about doing away with the low emissions tax and vrt rates?
