Subaru Forester Question

Sunday Drivers
Hi To All

As I said in my Impreza for sale ad I'm probably buying a 00 Forester S turbo towards the end of next week, I'm finally getting a Subaru with a turbo! I have a set of OZ Racing Superleggera alloys 17 x 7 (48) (bought from Redfitz!) that I'm going to put new tyres on. I noticed a lot of the American Forester owners seem to run much wider tyres, what size and brand would Forester owners here recommend for these wheels? I don't do off road driving and I won't be doing any high performance driving either, about motorway speeds would be the most but I do want a good tyre. It has the normal/stock suspension and I'd rather something that looks a bit grippier rather than low profile to suit the look of the Forester and fill the wheel arch a bit?

If anyone reading has a good Forester that they are thinking of selling let me know, last chance, cash waiting!

Thanks

Stewart.

215/55-17 is a stock size in 17" (for MY06-08 at least- not sure about 00 though) and it is good to stick to that unless you wanna be a "sitting duck" insurance wise (mind you you can put any other size but would have to declare it/have it approved...same thing about the alloys if "non forester" ones)...
premium brands- nothing lower in the food chain than kumho or falken- good value/performance for your euros...false economy to spare on tyres...

Thanks Milo, so I can go 215 wide and 55 up. I was offered new Cooper Tyres CS6 205/50/R17 for €120 each, has anyone tried these? I looked on eire tyres just now and they only have Yokohama at €196 ! or Nokian at €108 in that size, I haven't heard of Nokian. Where is the best place to get tyres, who does good value or deals for ISDC members?

Thanks

Would like to see Gav's stay in the club :subaru:

Hi Gonzo

I'd like to see it stay in the club too! A great Forester but I wasn't planning on spending that sort of money at the moment. I spoke to him earlier today, very nice guy, very helpful. I was hoping maybe we could have done some kind of deal with out the body kit but he naturally wants to sell it as is, so would I if I were him. But I would really like it, that shape is one of the best I think and he's put a lot of money and time into it.

cooper by reputation are very good- same kinda league as falken...nokian are renowned for their winter tyres and are a very reputable brand...
if you want all-season/weather tyres that perform very well in all weather (including snow/ice) if not pushed to the extremes vredestein quatrac 3 are the ones to have...
like i said 215/55/17 is stock size for SG5 (might be for SF as well)...surely they will fit SF with no issues but you wanna confirm if there are no insurance implications before you commit...
there is plenty of good deals going in local tyre places...on-line isn't often the cheapest anymore- got vredesteins fitted myself last november by a local lad ~100-150€ cheaper than it would have worked out via on-line+fitting/disposal...

Also, I just realised I put in "all weather tyre" when searching on eire tyres but if you just put in "all" lots of them come up. A nice set of Kumho tyres with rim protection on sale from €197 to €117 and they get good reviews from users in other clubs, also same tyre for sale on http://www.tyres-pneus-online.ie for €111. The vredestein quatrac 3 seems to be about €150 per tyre, is that around what you paid Milo?

At least now I know what I'm looking for, can start haggling!

Thanks

S.

I think I paid 120€ on the road for 215/60/16 (there was also a complimentary tracking because of 4 tyres bought)...you would be surprised how competitive price you can get these days from local places...
if you want vredesteins heard that crowd called "d26 tyres" from up the north are the main distributor...

Thanks Milo, I'm getting them to find out about the Vredestein tyres, they seem like a very good option and get a lot of good reports and are all weather as well. I'll see what price they can do, told them about the wholesalers as well!

SF5 was i think 205/60/16...

So 225/50/17 should be in correct area.

Thanks for the advice Dave when I spoke to you earlier on the phone.
