Hi,

I really love the Impreza but dont really have the cash to run a 2 litre. Anyone I asked has said id be better off with a golf 1.4 over an impreza 1.6. Is there any redeeeming aspects to getting the impreza 1.6 other then just the good looks?

Alot of guys on here reckon there fairly heavy on juice. Im sure someone will be along to give ya a bit of advice fairly soon.

simple fact of the matter is that the 2 litre non turbo is easier to run ,

1.6 is an animal on juice , have an extremely heavy body to lug around coupled to a awd system its not the most economical impreza ever ,

I had a 2005 1.6 ts and nearly cried with the fact that my mate was getting further to a tank of juice out of a v5 sti , i bought the 2.0 sport in 2007 and honestly costs less to run , im blue in the face telling people the same story once they say there thinking of buying 1.6 ,
Very little in the difference to tax or insure but the better mpg wise and you get a bit of poke compared to 1.6

What about the FWD 1.6? That heavy on juice too?

wouldnt be as bad but wouldnt pull the skin of a rice pudding

Would it not be quicker than the AWD 1.6? AWD not bogging it down...

i moved up from a 1.6 2months ago, the WRX Prodrive is costing me the same.. well normal driving :multijump:

Went to dublin to get my new one traded in the 1.6, 4hr30mins driving up... 1.6 cost €45 euro - WRX to come back was driving 5hrs 15mins due to heavy traffic was 50 Euro.

The 1.6 is a nice car, but its AWD and its heavy and needs to put the foot down alot for it to move.

Hey

I was also looking at another site and was told to stay clear.
Came on here, got good advise and loving the car to drive.

Below is the link for the replies I got

It's the automotive equivalent of stuffing socks down your pants to enhance your package.
Either buy a proper fast car with a proper engine or buy a Focus or Golf 1.4 if you're born to be mild.

to be honest, its simply sense when you sit and think about it. 1.6awd will be a thirsty demon due to the 4 wheel drive system on a low power engine, but a 1.6 front wheel drive is fine on petrol and as pokey as any other low horsepower car. had the front wheel drive and found it fine on petrol and power. drive both before making up your mind one way or another. first hand experience of both is the only way to know.
