Such a hard decision!!

Hi guys,

Really stuck here at the min. As some of you know I was recently in a crash where both my passenger doors were wrecked. So the insurance company as usual are fuking me over but thats another story!

Anyway I have wanted to get a few bits done to the car for a while now, front and rear bumper resprayed, upgrade the alarm etc! So I now have a bit of money and got a great quote:
# Full car respray (White)
# Autopage 727 alarm
# Referb my OZ Ultraleggras and spray them black

All this is coming to 1900e. Opting for the full respray cause the cars paint is not in great nick, some of it has started to fade and is in need of a bit of a lift. If I was to only get bumpers done it would stand out like a sore thumb. I just don't know if this is worth my while cause the car realistically only worth that in its current state! There is noting else I want at the minute and I love the B4 but my mates just have me thinking is all. Need a bitta support or ideas please!!

Ye my mate knows the lads out in Ice Tronix and they are doing it for a great price. They have done some great work on his cars and other cars that I've seen over the years

got them to do work for me 3 years ago, they done a great job, couldnt fault them

the decision to go ahead with the full respray rests on the fact of how long your gonna keep the car, if its your pride and joy and going to have it for quite a while still then i would go ahead with it, but if you are un sure how long your going to have it or there is a chance that in the near future you may change your mind after the work is done then i wouldnt go for it as you wont get your moneys worth back

just my 2 cents worth is all

hope you make the right decision pal

I wouldn't think about what the car current value is, I have a white B4 aswell and I love it. the front bumper has a few stone chips but I think the rest is in very good condition. Sounds like a GREAT price for all the work and from what I know, ICETRONIX have a great rep. If you love the car do it. DONT take the cars value into consideration, it'll only turn you off

Goodluck with it and get some pics up of before and after

It is my pride and joy and the only thing I'd like next is an X5! But they are going for mad money. I love the B4 and I don't want to get rid of it at all but people putting these ideas in my head - sell it on and get an impreza -! I'd love a 2003 model impreza but insurance and all is running through my head!

Ahhh its such a pain in the hole thinking about all this! :angry1:

I had a civic robbed twice that had ice tronix alarm fitted by them.
I'm a spraypainter and have done all Subaru Ireland work in the past till I moved jobs and have to say prices have come down a lot over the last while people just happy to be able to stay working.fact.

I. Charge 280 for alloy re furb
Legacy respray can do for bout 1400 est.
MDS are doing Clifford alarms 290 that's way I use since and not a problem

Thats just my 2cents hope it helps

Id say they may be all right for repaint only, but just a no go for crash repairs.
Lots of people think that both go hand in hand, but they dont. A sh*t hot painter could be crap at panel beating.
I had a a white S2000 that was originally grey, Icetronix did the paint job for previous owner and i have to say who ever painted it at that time was excellant, i know my paintwork and it was basically like factory..
That repair in photo is crap, but looks to me like no new parts were used and it was a case of bashing everything back out

Im not defending the work above, but i used to be a panels beater. (am qualified etc but never continued cause of health issues)
Anyway i used to turn alot of work away cause people said they wanted a cheap job done so they could sell the car or whatever!!!!

All well and good, but say for talk sake Kenc brought me his car and told me to do a cheap job on it, he drives off happy! Next thing 8 months later some lad looks at the car and says "what banker done that job on that" he isn't going to say "i told him to do it cheap" he's just going to give my name!!!
Does that make sense? I remember pricing jobs at 2500 st and the owner telling me they where getting it done in another garage for 900 quid!!!

Next time i seen the car the owner was giving out about he sh*t job that was done on it, asking me to 'fix it' i always politely refused telling them it was now going to cost the original price plus the cost of undoing someone else's dodgy work!!!!

Next time they priced a job with me, they paid it!!!

Moral of story, don't always judge a repair without asking questions

Hammie is bang on in what he is saying, i have a mate who paints, and he was constantly getting asked to price just sprayin a car, where the owner ws going to sand it down and prep it to save money.. no way would he touch the cars as he said to have it right he would have to go over and prep the car correctly after the owners effort, if he didnt and sprayed over the owners prep work it would be crap, and at end of day when people ask who sprayed the car, its his name that will be given.

If you want to get a Full respray, there is a few things you can do to insure you get best job possible, be willing to pay the few quid to get the Rear window and Windscreen removed, be willing to remove all trims and buy new ones if necessary, I personally would remove bumpers, remove door handles, spoiler, lights skirts, Mirrors....Everything basically.
That way it can be preped correct and everything gets sprayed and not masked with soft edge tape, or hioping that the paint reaches in under where spoiler meets boot etc etc..
Strip the car as much as you can, you can never have enough stipped, it may be slower to put back together but its worth it.
Make it clear you want it perfect to the painter and at end of the day you have the cash you call the shots, inspect the car when finished, not right you dont pay simple.

Someone i knoiw went to a top notch painter, with a 1 year old car that had new bumper/ bonnet and mirrors fitted and a small dent on the rear arch fixed. I went with them to collect the car and the minute i walked into yard the rear quarter looked orange instead of read, and there was fish eyes in the paint, i said to the owner your not taking this out of here like that, the painter was there and i told him what i seen, he tried to tell me that they would buff out, and i just said the rear quarter is a different colour, what buufer you have that will fix that? and as for the fish eyes, If your able to buff them out fair play to u. So he said he would buff it next day, we left the car, and i told the owner that no way will the car be ready 2mro, and sure thing it wasnt, 2 days later we got the call went back and it had been all repainted... and i asked him did it buff out after and he just passed it off.

I knew it was worth asking you guys what your thoughts were. You've left me with a lot to think about and to look at I must say. I'll keep ya posted on what I'm doing and before and after pics etc. Might be a few more questions your way in the mean time ha!

Thanks again lads! :subaru:
