Taught this would make some interesting reading about standard subaru engines ma

Great read Alan!
Makes you think you could run 400+ bhp with out fear of it blowing up on a pure standard motor!
I think it really goes to show how important it is to have the right bits bolted on, and the general setup and mapping knowledge right!
Even a bomb proof Closed deck block and fully forged semi closed deck block can sh1t it's self if It is setup and/or mapped badly!
All to common place!

you have to remember that this was based on a 2003 car back in 2007

so a 4 year old car with problaby 30-50 thousand miles so a relitively newish car.

i wouldnt be going putting out 500bhp on a 10 year old engine with 100k miles, plus this car has a 6 speed box, no standard 5 speed box will take that power.

your right dan about anyblock regaurdless of what it is, is explodable, even my heads that were full race spec over heated and burned out two exhaust values and two intake values, problem unknown but possible from over/under fueling from map or doggy injector

The fuel they are using is also a huge factor...can see as well that it was Pat Herborn who mapped the car...

I dont know what to make of the figures at all, i was always led to beleive that 400 on standard block was the most it could take..
I also cant imagine it would make a nice road car, say it would have to be up over 4k before there anything

As the lad said in SN thread , a stage one (340bhp) '07 uk sti 2.5 had much more accessable power!
if that 500 bhp car had a standard 2.5 instead of his standard 2.0, then he'd have much better/earlier spool and buckets more torque on the GT35R
The GT35R is two big for an ej20, I'm sure the lad in question is just running that to show how far the EJ207 can go!
Personally I think something like the MD321H (410bhp capable) is the very biggest that should be use on a road car with a 2L motor, you'd still have a good rev range, Power from around 3500-4000 to the 8000 red line, and she'd be nice and responsive!
On 2.5, something like the MD321V (500bhp capable) would spool up around the same as the H on the 2L and would have loads more torque but revs out at 7,000!
But I'm thinking all that torque might cause issues with conrods!
So safe enough to say, that a standard 2.0 or a 2.5 would make ballistically fast reliable road cars with a 321H or similar, a fuel pressure reg up'd to 3.5bar, walbro pump, and remapped to around 400bhp!
