Tax question.

For cars registered in 2008, you had the choice to register under whichever motortax system was cheaper, correct? Under old system the MY08 2.5 WRX is €935 or something is it? What is it going by emissions? Is it class F of €1,050?

Where they not the highest tax band as in 2k to tax

I dunno but you could be right. The new 2.0 are €1,050 aren't they? If it is in the 2k range I'd stick with a 08 and keep it under the old system!

think a few of the hatch's came in at the €935 but the majority of them are in the 2k bracket ,

Never heard anything about having the "choice" of which way they were reg'd , doesnt sound like something that would happen

i think i heard before it is around 2k per year
you need to know the emissions of it then enter it in this site should help you http://www.vrt.ie/roadtax.php
id say definetly cheaper with the old system
iris road tax is designed to rid us of high emission cars so must be dearer
personally i think the few hatches around and hawkeyes are the last we will see of these great cars

If your car was regstered before July 08 you had the choice of taxing it in the old or new system. Obviously if you had a diesel and the new system was cheaper, you'd tax it that way. If you'd bought an STI or the likes before July, you'd keep it under the old system. :)

went and found this on citizens information

"New cars registered between 1 January 2008 and 30 June 2008 had their motor tax charged on the basis of engine size initially. If it was beneficial for those cars to switch to the CO2 based motor tax system, this happened on the first renewal of motor tax after 1 July 2008. The CO2 based system does not apply to second-hand imports that were registered abroad prior to 2008."

never thought our government would leave something open ended like that , usually its screw joe public as much as possible

If you'll excuse me, I have some window shopping to do.

some way of making paying a grand in tax look like a bargain...nearly like this bailout interest rate reduction thing

What you looking for ?

Not sure yet. Dad wants to get a new car this year but he's a bit of a registration snob so is looking at the plate rather than mileage, tax and spec lists. He asked me to go halves but I told him I'd only be going halves if it was a scooby and a pre-July 2008 model at that and there'll be no diesel!

He has a van so I'd have it most the time. Only time he'd be using it is when they go away for a weekend or the weekly shopping. If it doesn't work out I'll just be getting a run-around and getting something sweet for myself later on in the year and he can wait 'til next year to get himself a car.

Are there still people out there that are bothered by what county is on the reg plate? Jeezzzz :ponder2:

Nah he doesn't care about the county, it's the year. He'd rather pay €25k for a 2011 Renault or something than pay say €17 - 18k for a well specced 2008 scooby.
