Texaco Vs Apple

I've always used my local Texaco to fill the 626. Comes to about €70 and I get about 420 miles before the petrol light comes on. Last week I filled at the Apple on the M1. Think it was €72 to fill it. Same driving, same roads, all I got was 346 miles out of the full tank before the light came on.

Proof enough for me to stick with Texaco.

alot of talk about this on octane, a few lads are having the same issues and some have a feeling that the pumps are giving out wrong readings.

i cant see why one fuel would give more miles than another one if same fuel.

i would go back to the apple garage and buy exactly 2 or 3 litres of fuel in a container and bring it home and check in a measuring jug to see are you been riped.

note: if you are doing this and find that you sre been ripped off, dont post up your finding in the free for all section(only members section) as it could lead to legal action, this has happened over on octane on a few occasions for different things.

another shite brand is " GREAT GAS " LOL...... they should seriously re- name it to " SHITE GAS"

i only use maxol in any of my cars...... and use texaco when filling diesel in the van.........

I don't see how this could be the cause in this case Johnny (not saying there isn't an issue there in general) cos Bonito has said that he filled the car on both occasions. So no matter what the pumps say there was a full tank of petrol giving 20% less mpg.

I heard people driving on flexfuel E95 cars were getting up to 100 kms less per tank. Could E5 be similar? Methanol would burn faster I believe. Still its the only fuel that makes my baby dance. :subaru:

your right john,

i looked at the one on octane and that lad said he would put 50 euro into the car (not fill it up) so as you said it shouldnt be the case above.

texaco do techron fuel and apple use an e5 fuel, 75 miles in the difference in fill up, thats massive

Ethanol has less calorific value than petrol, which means it is less efficient produces less energy... but at 5% mix I can't it having such a huge effect on the results...unless of course Techron fuel is more efficient and has a higher calorific output than apple fuel

Nail on the head. It'd be fair to say that and worth the experiment if I was just throwing 20 or 30 in at a time but I always fill it from light to gills.

Even as an example now, the gauge hasn't even gone half way since filling in Texaco and I've done just over 220 miles so far.

There's a Maxol near work so maybe next time I'm empty I'll fill there and compare that aswell but I wont be touching Apple Fuels again. I wouldn't mind so much if I found the car ran a little better and the margin of difference wasn't so huge but the car ran the exact same, the fuel just disappeared!

In the states you can actually buy the Techron by itself so should you ever be low on fuel in an area that doesn't have a Texaco (Chevron) filling station you can still benefit from the Techron.

The only thing is my uncle said not to run octane booster if you're filling in Texaco unless your car is specifically mapped for 95 Ron + Techron. So if you're mapped for just 95 Ron, use plain 95 Ron fuel because I tested this on the 626 before Christmas and the car ran very rough during the tank of fuel.

i have found this also if i fill in the esso at my work i get 250-300 miles to the 50 litre fill .if i fill in texaco its about 250 also ,fill in maxol definitely get 300 ,but the worst is tesco i filled there once {i was stuck } and all i got was 180 to the tank so there is something different about the fuel :dontknow:

Well, I may have an answer to your missing feul problem....

A friend of mine filled up the tank on his moped one day from an Apple filling station, and found it ran quite badly. So he brought it over to his bike mechanic, who cleaned out his carb, and emptied the tank into a clean, transparent container. He left it overnight and noticed that the feul separated into petrol, and whot looked like to be very dirty water.

Maybe that's the problem??

Haven't a clue! I have heard of E5 going bad if left sitting too long in the reservoirs but I thought Apple is just normal 95 Ron. Whatever is added or taken away, it's a sh*t petrol and I'll never be putting it in anything I own again, even a lawnmower.

Decided I'm going to do a full comparison of this. Filled up the other day in an Esso garage on the way home from work. Next fill will be a Maxol and so on and I'll record all the findings. I'm then going to get a couple litres from each of the garages I use over the next few fills, put them in containers and leave them for a couple days and monitor any seperations etc.

to many garages messing with pumps id say to be able to get a proper comparison :new_2gunsfiring_v1: :new_2gunsfiring_v1:

Easiest way to do it will be take the samples from the exact same pump I fill with. Then at the end of it I'll have a hybrid blend of petrol! :icon_jook:

Last fill was from Esso and I got 415 Miles and that was with spankin' her a couple times. Not looking good for Apple.

never get those kind of miles in any of my cars

1996 Mazda 626 1.8i LX DOHC 105bhp from factory and made 104bhp on a Dyno in October.

Mileage just hit the 100k miles marker the other night.
