THINKING OF A NEW CAR

vitalie

Petrolheads
Wright Lads, been thinking of this for some time now but just cant make up my mind... :ponder2:

Thinking a getting a cheap and tuneable capable of BIG HP car, after surfing on web and different forums im kinda in between 2 cars, Nissan 300zx or Mitsubishi GTO, now they are both 3000cc and TT...

I need your opinion, pros and cons....

Supra. No contest. Standard internals were way over engineered and will take 600bhp safely with proper fuelling. Exhaust, induction, boost tweak + map will net 450bhp. Similar story for GTR skyline. Both these cars were massively strangled in standard trim due to japanese gentlemans agreement to stick to 280bhp. However the UK spec supra got bigger turbos and made 326bhp standard. Even auto box equipped models can take big power. 300zx are big heavy cars and not so readily tuneable without big cash outlay, and GTO's are a ball of trouble if tuned at all.

The Supra will be cheaper to get to 450bhp.. basically bolt on bigger turbo , control fuelling as you said and a serious reliable 450bhp...they are incredibly hard to insure but( over here uk anyway) I got cheaper quotes on a 911 turbo than on a supra or skyline

The 300zx as beautiful as it is, is nowhere near as cheap to tune as a supra! However they aee worth the money!!!
If your plannin on takin it sideways the supra is hands down winner cause of controlability as well

if you want something slightly out of the ordinary then id suggest a jz powered nissan Laurel or soarer

if you wanted something else out of the ordinary just to mae your choice more difficult what about a chaser, class jap styling with turbo and most of them ive seen in the country have lsd which is a bonus

i really start wondering are this two cars that bad, the 300zx has VG30DETT, the crank and rods are forged steel units from the factory, the stock rods are very strong and have been used in 600hp engines with no problem, yeah slightly heavy but you can get it for as little as 1500-2000yoyos where a supra would start at 7k if you lucky, imagine what i can do with 5, only 2 words come to my mind, sh*t loads... IMO 300zx are underestimated, moving to TT GTO v6, by converting into a single turbo, bigger turbo, and few mods to fueling and cooling system, NO INTERNAL MODS, you can get 550hp...

GTO cons: 130mph max speed, parts hard to find, and VERY VERY heavy.
pro's: 3.0 TT DOHC 24v twin-turbo capable of up to 550hp, 4x4

300zx cons: :dontknow: , ok a bit heavy
pros: can gain up to 600hp on standard internals, parts easy to find more or less.

EDIT: this are the few cars i was looking at:

3000GTO - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3190131

300ZX - http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3170762

what do you want the car for , road or track . are you leaving the :subaru: stable ????

GTO's area complete nightmare..I looked at 1 did a lot of research..so many electronic aids to go wrong and because they are so rare parts can be very expensive..if it was between 300zx and GTO I would take 300zx.

How about a GTS skyline? early R33's are cheap enough and relatively cheap to tune...

EDIT: just looked at those links....both of those have to be a bargain at that price...very tempting

HELL TO THE NO ma brother, im in the getto for life..
was thinking to have the sti as tesco and lidl use and the other for pure power.

@ Dagnut, yeah have to agree, to many electronics, suspension is eclectics, rear spoiler, front spoiler and all that affects the weight of the car, if i was to go for the GTO, id swoop the suspension to coilovers and that should reduce weight and possible electric problems, also the front and rear spoiler motor and strip her to the bone in general, but i cant overcome how rare and expensive the parts are.

How much is the GTS R33 going for these days..?
