Thinking of getting a scooby

Hi lads,

I was thinking of changing my car sometime in the near future and was playing with the idea of getting an Impreza WRX so I said I'd come here for some advice.  Id like to get the 03-05 model (blobeye I believe it also known as).  Some people have said that if I were to go for the WRX Impreza that I should go for the STi instead but after doing some research on it it seems that the sti is alot more "hardcore" than the WRX with stiffer suspension.  Is it that much quicker than the WRX? Can the WRX realistically be used as a daily driver?
Considering I'd be stepping up from a 90bhp Golf TDi would it be too much of a leap?

welcome along! The sti is the way to go but there is nothing wrong with a wrx either. Either way, you will be delighted with buying a subaru, you will love every minute your driving it.

Go for the sti mate, insurance is the same... Dont be worried about stiff suspension unless your over 60

05 sti will have the wider track and dccd aswell i think

Only way to go if going for a newage imo

Insurance is not the same much cheaper on a legacy

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

What kinda petrol needs to be used on these cars? Do they need the premium V-Power stuff?
I probably try and source one from the U.K as they get a decent spec over there and IIRC the jap imports need to be remapped.

A uk would be fine to run on 95..but for best performance run it on Maxol E5 avail;able @ most Maxol garages same price as normal fuel.
Have a look on the site their are plenty of cars with great spec and have already been mapped, and you know its been treated well.

Im sure it is cheaper on a legacy, i meant between an sti and a wrx impreza though

Welcome to the club lad, u've come to da rite place 4 help. I have an sti myself and she's my daily driver. Don't find her anyway hard on da rd and wudn't swap her 4 anything. I haven't driven a legacy so can't comment but im sure they're just as good. Imo i think u shud test drive all 3. wrx, sti and legacy den u can c 4 urself. As 4 where 2 buy,i wud seriously recommend checkin out da cars 4 sale on tis site. Some beautiful scooby's,well looked after and owners know wat they're talkin about. Best of luck.

welcome along :thumbs up:.as said above take each them for a good test drive and see what you thing .loads of very good and well looked after cars in the for sale section here and well priced. :subaru: :subaru:

Thanks again lads.

I had a quick look in the for sale section an saw a lovely 2000 uk wrx for sale it seems like a really good price but unfortunatly I'm trying to shift my own car first, other than that I'd have snapped it up. I dont think Id go for a Legacy I wouldn't be too gone on them, although the cheaper insurance would be a good bonus alright.

Welcome along. :thumbsup::subaru:

Everyone coming to Subaru says that until they drive a Legacy. Great performance for the car that it is and as Dagnut said there is a savage mix of power and comfort. Also an awful lot handier than an STi on petrol if its going to be a daily driver.

Yeah sorry for the confusion there..I wouldn't even consider a WRX if I was buying an Impreza..thats just a personal opinion based on Insurance /running cost etc

Both the WRX and the STi are fine as daily drivers in the year model your looking at.

I bought a wrx a few years ago and wish I had bought an STi strate away. Since then I've had a Blob eye STi a Bug STi and a Classic TypeRA STi and didn't find the Suspension in any of the models hard to live with. I'd defo recomend that you concider the late 04 to 05 Model STi with the DCCD and wider track.

The WRX all though a great car I beleave was bought from new by people who couldn't afford a the extra €20,000 that the STi cost but this is brought down conciderably in the Second had market to approx €5000-€7000 in the model year your looking.

If you have the money go for the STi.

Also you seem to have an Impreza in mind so I'd stay that way rather then looking down the legacy road for the minute as again if you bought a legacy although a great car you'd wish you had bought the Impreza but did you check out your insurance on an Impreza as this usually determines the Legacy to be the car for most people.
