Time to start getting some respray quotes

So i think im going to pull the trigger and get mine resprayed, Im in too minds whether to stay the same color Black 32J obsidian black pearl or change to this lovely colour i came across on another legacy site:

I was toying with the idea too of updating the front end,(my front bumper is on its last legs anyway) which basically involves needing a new front bumper, headlights and wings which brings it up to the 08 front end like so:

Basically i would love to end up with this front end and colour :)

What are the difficulties when changing the colour of the car? Does it add a lot more cost? I dont mind how long it takes to do, or dont mind travelling outside of Dublin for this. i can be without my car for a few weeks now. once its a top quality job and well priced and they will stand over their work and deal with any issues or defects i notice etc.

If anyone has any numbers to places i can ring around and get quotes from and see their work please put them up here or pm them to me so i can see how much money its going to cost me :)

I cant see myself buying another Subaru after this so might as well keep going with this for another while so! If i changed car i would probably end up getting a loan out to fund it which i dont fancy doing at the minute! Am i mad to be thinking of this?

That gray is lovely, any more pics? Not sold on that grill bit too deep, might look ok if the bonnet vent was filled in with a E92 M3 type bulge, you have front mount on yours?

here's some more pics of that colour:

Yeah the Subaru grille he has in these pics is nicer. I currently have front mount but not sure im going to keep it, probaably no need for it with the little vf36! If i do end up with a new bumper i wold rather not hack it up to fit it around the fmic!!

IN this picture the front end looks out of place...the nose looks a bit long? probably being to picky but the standard BL5 nose looks more balance

I this the same front end?

Do what ever makes You happy Dan your a long time dead love the honeycombed grill and color.. Next time a get a a few dollars I will be repainting also. There is a guy not far from me called Jarlath Ennis very good at the painting,Jarlath Ennis crash repairs think he has a web site.

There could be a few coats of lacquer on that Dan to get that much of a shine..
It's not a bad colour but if it were me, to justify a colour change I would be going with something that's a bit more different than going from black to charcoal grey... And also I would try keep in mind what it would look like without the shine when it's being used every day... And I think that would look like every other Grey car around.....

The difference with a colour change is that in around door shuts, boot lid, bonnet shuts, visible parts of body coloured door parts have to be all painted..and cleaning and sanding these areas is usually a major pita and time consuming.... If staying the same colour these would not be touched... Could end up with doors, boot lid, bonnet being removed to get access to... That's where the extra cost comes in... Really to go it perfect the car should be stripped to a shell and painted but who is going to go that far lol

Also for a drastic colour change, the car may have to get a build up coat of paint or get primed again. So the old colour won't shine through.

Also when staying the same colour, provided the correct shade to match is available and the roof is in perfect condition... Some painters will paint around the car and not touch the roof, just give it a restore.

I would
Leave it the colour it is
Looks great
Just needs to be mint
As it's a super car and just needs a clean up due to wear and tear etc.
It would make a huge difference Dan
2 - 3.5 I'd guess

Alternatively I'd get the chap who did Ciarans dents to go at it everywhere including bonnet ends etc.
Did you see how many dents he found on that car
Check Ciarans blog
Then see what needs to be painted

Just give the car a restoration and have it like new
Leave as is great colour on them
And cheaper
And less messing around and effecting resale and :icon_blahblah:

Just my 2 cents

cheers lads, yeah i think the colour change is just not worth it and as said by Ken unless your doing a full strip down to the bare shell and respray tthe whole thinkg it just wouldnt look right!

Im still pretty keen on the front end update. a 2007-09 3.0 spec b has the same bumper and that i would like to try track down parts and still do that anyway. Ill switch back to uprated top mount too probably so no more need to butcher up bumpers to make them fit!

@Colm so about 2.5-3k for same colour respray? i could live with that

If you come away from from Dublin prices I think you will get a respray in same colour For around 1.5- 2k max.

Did you try that Rick Weldon lad out swords/lusk direction? Ricks car care.. Seen a Chaser he did and it was very good job. Also Hartleys Motorcraft in New Ross Wexford have a fair set up and seem to be consistently good

Ring Ian in elite auto wash, he has a lad that he got to do some work on his gtr, he is in a unit just up from him.
He said he is great and Ian has ocd about paint so he must be good.
Worth a call
Keith

im finding it very difficult to source the bumper, its 250 unpainted and about 800 euro for shipping! if from Japan! I found the part number so ill give Carol anf Roche a call for the laugh and see how much they can get one for

Edit: 400 from C&R which isn't bad, in stock in uk so can get it within a week :

Time to price up all the other little bits too :)
