Timing belt replacement

Baz

Sunday Drivers
Just had my 2.5T forester serviced at Slattery's, Puckane. 91 km on the clock & their system flagged that the timing belt is due for replacing @ 105kms. They gave me 2 quotes for this, 1/ €737 to replace belt, adjuster & idlers, 2/ €263 to replace just the belt. Labour on first quote was €145 & €110 on second.
Advice please would be appreciated, is it necessary to replace everything or just have the belt done ?
Thanx, Baz.

its pretty important to get the lot done!!!!
is expensive but will cost you so much more if an idler or tensioner seizes in the future!!!

Id say you'll get a better price than that from one of the traders here.
But probably best get the lot done

cant see him getting a better price matt,
the labour is not the expensive part above..its the tensioners and pullies which are subaru only AFAIK...
:ponder2:

Probably not much cheaper but maybe that price minus the labour.
I paid 700euro for the lot to be done a year ago

Thanx for your replies. The quotes given are inc. labour, my post may be misleading !

Have done a bit of searching online, found a 'Dayco' timing kit on a US website (autopartsgiant.com) for $199 & on a UK site (importcarparts.co.uk) for £195. The UK site states that dayco are oem parts for subaru. Any opinions on using non subaru sourced parts. Don't know shipping costs yet but can't be that much.

As above!Do the water pump also for the sake of it.That price isn't outrageous

Alright mate have my own timing belt to do ive checked
with subaru what belt i should have and its an 072 belt as
for things like that ye really dont want to go spurious, i was
going to go with just the belt but after reading this tread might
get the kit, new is good  but unless your getting uprated stuff
like kevlar id go genuine not sure how much subaru would charge
for the kit but id say its a bit, the belt off them is about 120 without
isdc discount

If i remember, Gates cambelts are oem and can be baught in some motor factors.

I have the kit from import car parts on mine. The auto tensioner in the kit is genuine subaru, dayco belt and pullies. So far so good anyway

The carraige with them is £16 stg up to 30kgs, maybe get a few other bits to get your moneys worth?
