Hi ,

Just got a 01 sti the other day - its an import with no info on it's history !!

It has 72000kms on it so when would the timing belt be due to be done !! I was told it was all done & serviced but im unsure !
Also made contact with street performace about a re-map .. it's the waiting game now until Andy F is over next . So now just using Lucas and petrol mixed together !

There is also a ticking noise for the engine ?? Any ideas ???? im told it could be from the waste gate !!

One last thing is there any garage which will service an sti - im on the south side of Dublin ..

Thanks,
Stew....

If you're not sure, it's always better to replace it. (timing belt, tensioners, etc.)
and do a remap asap unless you want the engine to go bang. :angry1:

Speak to Dave @stitunnig he will sort ya out no prob....
Is your car standard...??
Dont think a waste gate "ticks "buddy..... :ponder2: best get it checked out....

If its a rapid ticking it could be your coil packs firing :ponder2:

D and S autoservices in swords looked after my B4 legacy, never seen so many impreza sti's in one place, can only give my opinion but.

Cheers,

I'll get ringing around for prices ,

Standard for now - just has a induction kit , back box , oil / water / boost guages and a Apexi AVCR,

If the coils are causing the ticking - is it ok to drive !!

Stew..

Hey Stewart ,

That ticking noise could be a load of differen't things , probably something small like boost solenoid sticking :dontknow:
See Our traders section for a mechanic near you and have it looked at just to be on the safe side.

And get some pic's up

Niall.

i think a loud ticking noise on idle can be a sign of noisey tappets, cause sometimes by using oil that is too thin for your engine, someone correct me here if im wrong? had it with my old altezza, when i used 10w40 it rand a lot quieter than with 5w30

The noise is coming from both sides for the engines - you can hear it while you are beside the car or seating in it with the window open - when you rev or drive it the ticking gets faster but NOT louder !! :icon_evil: just annoying me , best get it checked out .... Im afraid to drive it now :icon_sad:

Cheers

boost solenoid!!!!!?

They do tick ( by function ). You can however clean them with some aerosol carb cleaner.

Pop the hoses off , connect the green connectors under the dash and turn on the ignition to put it in electrical test cycle and with a rag on the top pipe to catch the gack, spray into the bottom.

Don't forget to disconnect the green connectors before you try and start it :)

can you tell me where the boost solinoid is on a 00 b4, i might try this to smoothen out my boost. when i put my foot down there is a slight hesitation before the boost kicks in. this is only recent and is not the vod, since my last fill of petrol so could be that also but i might aswell have a go at cleaning it anyway.

@northdublin - On the B4 there's a black box on the drivers side which contains a few solenoids that control the twin-turbo system, but the wastegate control solenoid is inside the wing on the passengers side. It's a good idea to take lots of photos of the pipework just in case you get mixed up when putting the pipes back again.
See the attached PDFs.

Sorry for off topic!
