Timing belt

Sorry for hijacking the thread here, but i'm glad i found it, I was also doing a bit of digging to try find out what this job would cost me... Despite it costing a small fortune, its a far cry from the money needed for when the timing belt $#!7$ itself and the motor decides to devour its internals:icon_omg:

I'm not entirely sure at what interval it needs to be done nor do i know if it has been done already (seller did say he had it done but you never know) as my car did not come with any history (an issue i am rectifying by starting my own file) but it the subject has been nibbling away at my sub-conscience.

Just a 500+ maintenance bill this soon after a fresh spray job will ensure a quick divorce, so i will have to plan this well.
I'm hoping this job can wait for the new year. Going on my driving style i can honestly say i have not put undue stress on my car only rarely taking the revs to 6K revs, honestly normally i am quite reserved when it comes to my car:icon_redface:, it is after all my daily and the only car for my household, gonna be sing taxis and public transport while she's gone for her respray.

Any way as far as i could tell Dave at RSR is so far the closest to me so i may PM you Dave when the bank manager allows me to proceed...

Got my tb, water pump and a good few things done by Dave last time. Top man who knows his stuff. You're in very good hands with him [emoji2] [emoji106]

Hey Lads

Looking for recommendations myself. I recently bought an SF5 STI Type M in Japan, due in a few weeks and want to change belt and anything else recommended. The car has a service history from Japan but i don't know yet what work was carried out. It only has 103,000 km's which is low for a 17 year old car so not sure if the timing belt was done. I am in the south west so looking for someone with experience doing that job.

Thanks a million

Legacy GT Spec-B

Hi guys, writing here to save on opening another timing belt topic.
My Legacy GT Spec-B wagon was due to replace it (5 years and 90K km since last job) so I was enqueuing recently. LegacyDave came with helpful hand, but as much as I'd love to leave my car with so much recommended specialist, I couldn't organize 2nd car and driver to go with me there to drop the car for the job and again to collect it afterwards. I called Subaru dealer near N7 (C&R) which is on my daily commuting way, but first they were ignoring me for a week promising to call back with quote and never doing so, after my 4th or 5th call finally they gave me quote of 940 EUR (VAT included) :eek7:
Then I gave a try to local garage in Saggart which quoted me 450 EUR all together for the job and parts. It seemed little bit too good to be true, but I gave them a chance. Convenience won, they are only 10 min walk from my home. Of course it didn't end up with 450 because that was price with non-turbo kit they ordered by my reg number, yes I said it's a turbo version when I was there first time. Got a call with new quote with new kit for turbo version for 600 EUR job included and gave them green light. These are the parts they used:

I hope this will be helpful for anybody in the future.

On top of that I noticed recently recently few drops of oil on my regular parking spot under engine, so something is leaking little bit more than I hoped. When I was buying the car I saw the cover/plate under the engine (passenger side) is dirty of oil, but said, grant  I was checking oil regularly for last 2 months I have the car and I have not noticed any drop in the oil level. If there is a leak, must be more like sweating than leaking. When they were doing timing belt I asked them to look around for it. They said they washed the engine left it running on idle for half an hour but couldn't see any leak anywhere. Maybe it needs more pressure from regular driving and not just idling. I should go back there next week to check if any leak appears.

Apart of that i need to get pair of new tires for front and I'm set :smokin:

Sound like rocker seals weeping common issue on subarus not a massive job wagon dec here did mine last year..

Keep a eye on oil level [emoji106]

That said driver side of engine was dry, it's only on passenger side. I'd or five to change seal only on one side, I guess so.
What work be a reasonable quote from garage for part and job? My budget is tight this month after doing timing belt and water pump.

Yea only one side normally weeps (cant remember which) but be good practice to get both done when going to effort imo

My advice would be to confirm exactly where leak is coming from. As currently its only a guess.
