Does anyone know what the vmax is in a de-restricted subaru legacy?

somebody mmentioned 177mph on another forum, but I'm not keen to go try proving it

Think Subaru said it was in or around 164mph but you'd be lucky to get that. AFAIK that would be an unladen engine speed.

I'd guess around 150mph on a favourable stretch of private road.

My german friend "Octavius Bullitt" was over here in ireland and was travelling at 100mph in convoy in his delimited B4 down the N11 gorey bypass en route to an event not so long ago , When all of a sudden an Altezza passed him out a relatively higher speed , feeling besmirched he planted it, and let the second turbo do its thing until speed was no longer being registered on the speedo . however he passed out the Altezza again at a serious rate of knots ,
Upon meeting said driver of said altezza later in the evening , the altezza (which had 280km/hr clocks ) driver said he was doing 240km/hr when i .. emm Octavius motored past at an estimated 260-270km/hr ....

So 150mph is easily attainable , after that its just how much nerve (stupidity) ya have to keep it planted and see how far it goes ...

Most sites I have seen say around the 160mph mark, but I would say you will be testing your engine if you keep that speed up for a while and your license!

Mines limited and I am keeping it that way

162 mph is the offical top speed..I had mine around near 0 waht ever speed that is...I passed my friand who was doing an indicated 155...mine was lower and more powerful than standard but there was still plenty leftso I can see the standard doing 161...the difference with the B4 to say an sti is both turbos are spooling higher in the rev range so from about 110 it starts pulling again plus higher gearing and no spoiler, so less drag.. The B4 shows it guts at 100mph+.

162 mph is said to be very max they will push without being modified.......

That said, None of our cars have ever been over 120kmh on any road..... some on track have gone faster tho :icon_biggrin:

This is most definitley true , aftert i got mine delimited , i was tempted to see what it was like , but shied away for ages ..
one night on a desterted motorway , curiosity got the better of me , and i let rip .... i was shocked ...in other cars , once you pass 100mph , you are fighting drag ,and every gain in mph in a battle against physics ... but in the B4 the acceleration after 100mph in fifth gear is staggering .... the torque from both turbos coming on boost just pummels the air out of the way with a resounding ease as it devours road at a frightening pace .

Lot of people get caught up in headline figures..how and where in the rev range a car delivers its power is hugely important for top speed....but have to say top speed isn't that important...you can't safely do 120+mph plusso its wasted in this country

Curiosity killed me one late night on the motorway and i put the foot down to see what the car could reach and it didn't disappoint!

Did better than that, she went up to 120km/h the other day, thought i was gonna lose my mind

the older(real legacy, roby) single turbo was quite the opposite, would still do 160mph. but after 140 or so, you could do some knitting. i don't know how accurate the speedo would be at that point anyway.

Also have a friend with a b4 that tested there car, with 2 yamaha r6, cbr 1000 and gsx-r 600, and on all clocks was reading 155-157mph. as the b4 clocks only go to 180kph
