THE SIGHT OF Esso garages around Ireland is set to come to an end, with Topaz Energy Limited today announcing plans to buy up the brand.
The agreement will see Topaz’s parent company Kendrick Investments Limited purchase the shares of Esso Ireland Limited.
The deal will see Topaz take control of around 38 service stations as well as receiving the rights to supply an additional 60 operated by independent dealers.
The incoming Chief Executive of Topaz, Emmet O’Neill, said, “We are an Irish company through and through and this deal demonstrates our commitment to supporting our position in this market. We look forward to welcoming Esso’s employees to the Topaz team.”
The deal is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2015. The deal will see employees of Esso Ireland and its subsidary Ireland ROC continue in their positions.
Irish billionaire Denis O’Brien has outright ownership of Topaz after buying over €300 million of the group’s loans from the IBRC.
In May of this year, former Taoiseach Brian Cowen was appointed to the board of the company.

So I've been using Esso in my car for last year or so and was quite happy as probably the best we have available to us in Ireland.
Getting car mapped on Thursday this week, should i fill up with topaz before mapping in anticipation of esso fuel not being around in the third quarter of 2015?
I already have topaz fuel card for work van and have a employee topaz card for fixed price per week on petrol.
Will i fill up with topaz or will it make any difference at all?
Is it the same fuel anyway?

Any advice appreciated.

Id love to hear what people have to say as i find the car runs better on esso.
Its cheaper than any garage near me aswell.
Mines mapped for E5 and theres defo a difference when using different fuals with the NF.
Esso and nf with a full tank is getting me over 400 miles and pulls very good.

id say map for topaz as if esso are gone it will be topaz trucks filling the tanks
pain in the hole been running esso lately and find it much better :icon_sad:

I wonder is this whole deal anti competitive and not in the best interest of the consumer. I can see a monopoly of topaz stations opening around the area. Ryanair were stopped from buying aer lingus to prevent an anti competitive scenario developing. I hope we won't all be cringeing the minute oil prices go up again.

Ryanair doesn't have the government in their pocket though Eoin. But you are right, will give them a monopoly in a lot of areas.

So do you then excuse all the back handers and crap that went on between him and the government ???
can you imagine how many jobs we would have had if the government and the likes of o'brine had of put the people and the country first instead of making the fat cats fatter
he is a leech a tax exile living in Malta with his 3.8 bln

I don't excuse anything, but the facts are there are probably 10,000 + people employed because of him that would be another huge problem if they were not

I hear ya but if the country was run the right way and our corrupt government and all there pals didn't run it into the ground and waste money we would probably have 50,0000 off the dole instead of the 10,000 he employs

+1. Most of his empire pays minimum wage anyway, or the working poor as they're known. :goodpost:
