Track day prep

So i couldnt find a previous thread on this so might be useful for all you veteran track day fans to contribute some useful tips and prep info for any track noobies etc. Obviously the basics such as decent brakes, tires, new fluids/filters etc but maybe a full checklist etc would be good to post up. A few specific questions i have:

Pads: I currently have some AP 4 pots and 2 piece discs with bluestuff NDX fitted with about half their life left, i was thinking same again or these CL RC5+ ive been hearing about

Tires: To save my daily driver tires i was thinking of getting either a part worn trackday set or new for my spare 17's. What would be a good tyre to look out for? is there a tyre that is good in both wet and dry on track?

Oil: Currently on millers cfs 10w40, i need an oil change so was going to change to a 10w60, is that a safe grade to run on track or should i look at something else?

ferodo ds2500 is the pad to go for dan

michlin ps3 are a great all round tyre for road or bridgestone re050 unless your looking for a track day tyre only

as regard the oil everyone has there own brand they use

i destroyed a set of ferrodo's on the last trackday so no faith in them, i was just up in Murray motorsports there and they recommended me the CL RC5+ pads. Im looking for track only tires since i have a spare set of wheels there so i can throw them on and not run my everyday tyres. They might have some part worns for me in Murray motorsport, need to check back on monday when the lads are back from racing up north.

I went to get an open face Sparco helmet from them but they have none left, any idea where else i could get one locally?

you used a new set of ds2500 at the last track day :icon_omg: i know its a heavy car but you shoud get a great bite and stopping power from them . try the cl's there ment to be very dusty and squeal like a pig

I done 2 trackdays in the heavy boat S3, and used brembo pads, which are very reasonably priced, good stopping power but had a very slight sleek and a fair bit if brake dust.
If your slow into corners and fast out, you'll save a lot on tyre rubber, I just used my normal road tyres, spare wheels with track tyres would be ideal.
Good ATE blue brake fluid is a defo must too.
Tyre pressure is another small adjustment that can make a huge difference, ideally do a couple of fast laps to get the tyres to temperature and THEN check your pressures. It's totally different to when the tyres are cold.
Also put you seat s couple of inches nearer the steering wheel to give you some more control, your wrists should be able to touch all 360 degrees without you having to lean forward.
Lastly , try to have you tow hook already fitted, as the guys in the JCB will not wait around for it to be fitted and will lift it up on the forks!????

I used rc-5 carbone. Lorraines on one of our trackday and they were sh*t only lasted till bout three o clock then I had to stop as calipers were on fire and pads on the steel ,never used ds2500 so don't know what they like

If you're gonna be changing to track wheels each time anyway I'd suggest you got for a better pad than the rc5+ Thats their road/track pad but if you're changing just for track days I'd be suggesting rc6 or preferably rc8. Robbie has rc8's for the spec c & ciaran used them in the race car & no fade at all.

Like that if you were using pad strictly for track day then the ds3000 would be better than ds2500

i wasn't considering track only pads since my current pads have left than have their life left probably, would the rc6/8 be very tough on the discs though?, discs needs to replaced soon too but i wont have a chance to change them before track day since ill have to send one of mine off to get matched up. im not sure what pads are available in my fitment i know the ds3000s are available but havent been able to confrim what else yet will fit my AP's

Ds2500 in all the cars I had got great value and no faid at all
Have them in the wr1 and this will be the 2nd track day and still loads on them

i might give the ferodo's another consideration so, prices i have seen so far

DS2500 are 165 euro - can use on road and track
DS3000 are 180 euro
RC5+ are 260 euro - can use on road and track
RC6 are 290 euro
RC8 are 320 euro

All adds up quickly! I think for my needs something i can use on road and track would suit me best

I think the ds2500's and some slick tyres would be good option :)

think ill go for the ferodo's, anyone know the cheapest place to buy them? quick search shows Demon Tweeks in UK having them cheapest or Reyland.

Turns out the tyres they have in Murray motorsport and are full slick, i guess they would not be ideal of Mondello and total useless if it was anyway wet?

Full slicks just pure dangerous if wet obviously......

You should be looking at :

Toyo R888
Yokohama ad08 (I have 2 there for sale)
Yokohama a048

ad08 would be the best in the wet out of those 3

As regards brakes, try www.brakes4u,co.uk or camskill

how much are you wanting for the AD's? camskill dont list pads for my calipers and brakes4u do only EBC. 125 sterling from demon tweeks seems like the best place.

90% thread €200 (€300 new)

You may as well go with demon tweeks so for the pads
