i would like to pay tribute to joe lane who died doing what he loved best going to rallys and taking photographs at the cavan rally. I took pity on joe and his son one december evening when they were taking photos of the historic rally near my house we were all soaked and cold so we invited them back to dry off and a bite to eat bewteen stages.so after that it became habbit to meet up with joe at a rally or ring him to get a good spot. he will be saldly missed by all in our household. caroline cleary who was pregnant also died in the accident my thoughts and prayers are with both familys at this time RIP

R.i.P very sad alright . just on of them sad things that happen . for anyone that's being at any rally stage it can happen at any rally any corner or crest or any car :icon_cry: thoughts are with the families

The Cleary Girl was a friend of the womans. Ironically she Navigates herself, and even more ironically and the next car after the escort that crashed had her Boyfriend navigating in it, so he was first car on the scene.
Strange how things happen.

Shocking :(

RIP terrible day for rally.

As scoobysub says could happen any event at any part of a stage.

Condolences to all involved. The most disturbing thing for me is the disgraceful reaction by the Irish media outlets to the whole thing. We had two rounds of the WRC and a round of the IRC and it barely got mentioned in the sports pages. No shame in them splashing photos of the incident all over the place on the front pages while people still grieving. It was the exact same a few years back in bike road racing, the Joe Duffy Brigade on calling it to be banned. Joey Dunlop never got any column inches for filling his van with gear and driving out to Eastern Europe to donate to the poor, but the media were quick to dance on road racers graves when a couple of lads got killed.
